Since the Fist of The Northstar by Buronson & Tetsuo Hara fancy reprints from Viz ended, my #LCS suggested this new HC edition of #TheMagnificentBastard (The Legend of Keiji) #Manga again with the art by Tetsuo Hara and this time the story by Keiichuro Ryu and printed by #Kodansha. It is thicker, but other dimensions are the same as Viz.

I have no idea about this series, but obviously I am familiar with the artist.

@ariadna I have a bundle of Erlang projects I wrote as exercises while I taught myself the language. One of then is a conversion of my IOCCC winner npdif into erlang-diff. Lots of references about difference algorithms, so not only learn the language, but a complex subject too.

Greetings, fellow glossopoeists.

I propose a collaborative linguaculture -- a (sub)culture created in and around a language -- based on the Common Honey model of language creation.

What is the Common Honey model?

It is a system that addresses both the division of labor and the relation of each participant to each other. To clarify, each role has final say and jurisdiction over a particular part of the language. Additionally, each role has attendant cultural taboos which help to foster a sense of community identity.

For example, in the Sajem Tan (Common Honey) community, "Thunder" is in charge of phonology and her taboo is that she may not rhyme, neither in English nor in Sajem Tan.

While Thunder or, indeed, any other member is allowed (and encouraged!) to accept feedback and proposals from their fellow participants, she still has the authority to approve, veto, or disregard any suggestions regarding phonology. In fact, during Sajem Tan's "Age of Great Reforms", Thunder changed /ʎ/ to /j/, /ɵ/ to /œ/, and /ɤ/ to /o/ based on the community's difficulty pronouncing these phonemes.

This system provides stability, yet encourages compromise and flexibility. The stability emerges from having definitive "answers" from a single individual/source, terminating indecisiveness and power struggles between members. Compromise and flexibility emerge when the members realize that any outré decisions or stubbornness on their part could be reciprocated by their co-collaborators.

To maintain momentum and to prevent burn-out on a small community, please invite as many people as possible. There may come a time when we'll need a designated ambassador/recruiter to reinvigorate the community with new members during lulls or absences.

On that note, we ask that you be available for at least two days each week so that we can conduct voice chats and live collaborations. Please, state your available days and hours when you introduce yourself.

The U.S. Navy had billed them as technical marvels
— small, fast and light, able to combat enemies at sea, hunt mines and sink submarines.

In reality, the Littoral Combat Ship ( #LCS ) was well on the way to becoming one of the worst boondoggles in the military’s long history of buying overpriced and underperforming weapons systems.

Two of the $500 million ships had suffered embarrassing breakdowns in previous months.

The Freedom’s performance during the exercise, showing off its ability to destroy underwater mines, was meant to rejuvenate the ships’ record on the world stage.

The ship was historically important too;
it was the first LCS built, the first in the water, commissioned just eight years prior.

But like the LCS program’s reputation, the Freedom was in bad shape.

Dozens of pieces of equipment on board were undergoing repairs.

Training crews for the new class of ships had proven more difficult than anticipated.

The sailors aboard the Freedom had not passed an exam demonstrating their ability to operate some of the ship’s most important systems.

One Navy secretary and his allies in Congress fought to build more littoral combat ships even as they broke down at sea and their weapons systems failed.

The Navy wound up with more ships than it wanted, at an estimated lifetime cost that could reach $100 billion or more.

The Navy’s haste to deliver ships took precedence over combat ability.

Without functioning weapons systems the vessels are like a “box floating in the ocean,” one former officer said.

Sailors and officers complained they spent more time fixing the ships than sailing them.
The stress led many to seek mental health care.

Top Navy commanders placed pressure on subordinates to sail the ships even when the crews and vessels were not fully prepared to go to sea.

Several major breakdowns in 2016 exposed the limits of the ships and their crews, each adding fresh embarrassment to a program meant to propel the Navy into a more technologically advanced future

We have published detailed resources (https://conlang.org/language-creation-conference/lcc11/lcc11-resources/) for visitors, including European and trans visitors in particular, as well as an explanation (https://conlang.org/language-creation-conference/lcc11/lcc11-future/) of our decision and future plans.

Presentation proposals (https://conlang.org/language-creation-conference/lcc11/lcc11-cfp/) are due January 28, 2025. Both in-person and remote presentations are welcome. Anything about conlangs or conlanging is welcome, as always. This year, we are particularly interested in presentations about:

- constructed signed languages or intentional creation within natural sign languages (including tactile)
- conlanger/conlang community sociology
- particular conlangs, including talks presented in that conlang (if there are enough proposals related to that conlang to sustain a specialty session for it)
- veterans & mental health
- conlang tips: 5-minute pre-recorded presentation of one focused way to do something conlanging related

Please distribute the call for proposals widely.

LCC12 2026 hosting proposals are due February 28, 2025. The requirements (https://conlang.org/cms/wp-content/uploads/LCC11_Host_Checklist.docx.pdf) are identical to LCC11's, just to be held any time in 2026.
