  1. Today years old when I learned about vim :s[ubstitute]! I set up a keyboard-only workstation in my office for some code related work tasks earlier this week, so getting more familiar with nvim has been an actual priority this weekend. I seem to remember owning a no starch press book on advanced vim motions like macros but can’t seem to find it in my library. #lazyfedi , anyone remember what it is?

  6. Some further info:

    • Turning airplane mode on and off didn’t fix it
    • A restart didn’t fix it
    • Private relay was off already

    But…

…within 10 minutes of doing/checking the above, it now seems to not be happening! Gah!

Will keep testing if/when it recurs.

  11. Help! Boost for reach, please!

    • iOS 26.6
    • iPhone SE (2020)
    • 4G and WiFi
    • Safari and app web views
    • No VPN or networking Config Profiles active

First time I follow a link to a page or enter an address in Safari, it sits for ages, then I get the attached error message. This happens for most sites.

If I hit refresh, it immediately works.

Content blockers turned off, no adblockers (currently).

If I tether to my phone the pages load immediately in Safari on my Mac.

Loading in a web view does not solve Safari’s issue (and vice versa).

    Please only answer if:
    • You are currently experiencing, or have recently experienced, this particular behaviour
    • You have found a solution or have eliminated anything I don’t mention here explicitly

If you’d prefer not to be blocked, please don’t respond if you’ve *not* experienced this problem, esp. with:
    • Gen AI “solutions” if *you* haven’t tried them *on this problem* and they’ve solved it
    • To say “Doesn’t happen for me” (even in jest [seriously – don’t do that!])
    • To advise me to “Get a real phone” (even in jest [seriously – don’t do that!])
    • To suggest “Have you tried…?” or “You should try…” (most esp. generic “reset network settings”-type responses)

  20. Dear People With Feelings about Cameras,

Do you have a recommendation for a compact/pocket camera that has some of the same mod cons that a smartphone would have (accurate location & timestamps in metadata, auto-upload to ideally Nextcloud), but that isn't actually a phone?

I'd like to be able to use it to both take some close up indoor detail shots (see recent photos of model trains in my timeline) but also general photography when I'm on a derivé around town, or on holiday or whatever. Happy to pair via Bluetooth to a phone to get reliable metadata & uploads.

Must be available from an actual physical shop in Sydney, budget up to something like the cost of a smartphone.

    TIA! Boots appreciated!

  25. Okay, #lazyfedi: I like NixOS, and my battery life is somehow better than on Arch, but the differences from a standard system are killing me.

Also I'm a little worried about Arch, given I extensively used the AUR and it recently got pwned pretty hard.

I like the rolling aspect of Arch, though!

What distribution should I drop on my Framework 13 (and, soon, 13 Pro) next, friends? Is Arch actually okay again? Is there another distro that I might dig, or am I just hosed?

  40. What is the best iOS app for playing audio files from iCloud? Preferably with a decent CarPlay interface…

    I’ve tried:
    * Evermusic (ok, but it’s cumbersome to navigate)
    * MusicBox (no CarPlay, Dropbox only)
    * Steve (good iCloud, no CarPlay)
    * files.app (eh…)

  50. Dear #Lazyfedi, what are you using for CI these days for (small scale) commercial projects?

I've previously used CircleCI to good effect, but their semi-recent security disasters and now trying to make me pay for a bunch of slop features I don't need has put me off them.

    Any reccys?

    Boost appreciated! TIA! x
