A group of 10 Ottawa lawyers sent a police complaint AGAINST ANOTHER LAWYER, rather than block her on Twitter or LinkedIn, resulting in this video.

I feel like #WeaponizedLawyerStatus is overdue as a hashtag.
Also, I feel like it's easier to get the cops to go harass someone in a different jurisdiction than in their own.

Just bought my first booth ever for my law firm at a convention... I keep telling myself I only need 1 lit client or 2-3 transactional clients from the event for this to pay for itself, but, damn, this is more than I spent on all marketing last year and I still need to rent booth furnishings, get event insurance, and buy decorations and swag.

@cspam This is hilarious. "Twitter is demanding that claimants must produce signed arbitration agreements" in order to proceed with their claims in private arbitrations that *Twitter itself* compelled.
As an occasional arbitrator myself, I know how I'd rule on a claimant's motion to return the case to a normal court. #lawmastodon

Just made my first ever shareholder distribution to myself from my law firm! Between that and the recent 401k deferrals and contributions I'm sort of realizing that yeah, I can do this.
After years of law firms I worked for telling me I couldn't survive on my own without them, I know for sure now that that is not true.
I can survive and maybe even thrive.

I'm very ready to side with #opensource contributors here, but this is such a strange example!
Part of what was so interesting about the DOJ v. PRH trial in #publishing recently was that the verdict finally widened the scope of who else might be harmed in the #book market's ecosystem: not just #consumers who buy books, but the #authors themselves (and the advances they earn).
I don't prefer #Spotify or #iTunes one iota.
Sure, #Napster was illegal! It was #piracy! The justice system absolutely should have helped put stolen money back into the hands of musicians.
But that's not what happened.
I fail to see how two giant tech #corporations selling subscription models that then pay 99% of artists fractions of pennies per spin is "better" for anyone besides the consumer.
This is part of why #antitrust has been so toothless for decades now, no? And why so many industries suffer from consolidation — this narrow, obsessive focus on consumer #pricing as the sole measure of "healthy" market competition.
Spotify and iTunes are far from "better and fairer for everyone."
Neither "makes everybody happier and more productive."
If suing on behalf of #opensource contributors is about not chilling innovation in #AI or #ML or even open source itself, there are just so many stronger analogies than, "Remember when regulatory compliance transformed the music industry?"
To this day, #musicians aren't compensated or credited fairly for their own work. Heaven help us if our imaginations stop at, "Well, Spotify and #Apple figured out #music!"
They figured out how to #profit off music.
