On This Day in 1953, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed Executive Order 10450 which expanded the definition of security risks and increased the authority of the federal government to fire employees as these risks. This was a major reform which contributed to the Lavender Scare, a period of time which led to mass firings and discrimination of LGBTQ people and barred them from government jobs.
