  1. When my father died we put him in the ground
When my father died it was like a whole library
    had burned down.
    World without end remember me.

  2. Last night I dreamed I died and that my life had
been rearranged into some kind of theme park.
And all my friends were walking up and down the boardwalk.
And my dead grandmother was selling
cotton candy out of a little shack.

  3. "Paradise
    is exactly like
    Where you are right now

    only much
    much
    .. better"

  4. Released today 44 years ago:

    🇺🇸 Laurie Anderson "Big Science" – 1982

Merges avant-garde composition, spoken word, and electronic minimalism which creates a detached, almost clinical atmosphere. Anderson is narrative-driven, turning everyday observations into reflections on technology, communication, and modern life...

  6. I met this guy - and he looked like he might have
been a hat check clerk at an ice rink.
Which, in fact, he turned out to be.
    And I said:
    Oh boy. Right again.

  7. The sun is shining slowly
The birds are flying so low.
Honey you're my one and only,
So pay my what you owe me.

  8. The devastatingly beautiful closing lines of O Superman (For Massenet) seem even more terrifyingly devastating given the current incarnation of the military-industrial-cryptobro complex.

    So hold me, Mom
    In your long arms
    Your petrochemical arms
    Your military arms
    In your electronic arms
    Ah, ah, ah, ah

  10. The only thing that binds me to the turning world below
and all the people and noise and sounds and shouts.
    This tightrope made of sound
This long thin line made of my own blood.
Remember me is all I ask.
And if remembered be a task forget me.

  11. "'Cause when love is gone
    There's always justice
    And when justice is gone
    There's always force
    And when force is gone
    There's always Mom
    Hi, Mom

    So hold me, Mom
    In your long arms
    So hold me, Mom
    In your long arms
    In your automatic arms
    Your electronic arms
    In your arms
    So hold me, Mom
    In your long arms
    Your petrochemical arms
    Your military arms
    In your electronic arms"

  12. good evening friends it's been an eventful week in chilitown. Lots of new music to catch up on!

For starters, here's a *new* version of Let X=X, performed live with NYC avant garde jazz weirdos Sexmob. Very cool! I wonder if an album is forthcoming?

  13. And the little girls sing: Ooooeee. Sharkey!
He's Mister Heartbreak. They sing: Oooeee. That Sharkey!
He's a slow dance on the edge of the lake. He's a whole landscape
gone to seed. He's gone wild! He's screeching tires
on an oil slick at midnight on the road to Boston a long time ago.
And Sharkey says: Lights! Camera! Action! TIMBER!

  14. I got your letter. Thanks a lot.
I've been getting lots of sun. And lots of rest. It's really hot.
Always used to wonder who I'd bring to a desert island.
Days, I remember rooms. Nights, I swim in the blue lagoon.

  15. For no reason I can think of this has been playing in my head.

Maybe it's just a reminder of me getting old (it's over 40 years since it was released).

    Maybe it's the lines
Cause when love is gone, there's always justice,
And when justice is gone, there's always force
And when force is gone, there's always Mom

    Or the American planes

Or the long petrochemical, military, electronic arms.

  16. LAURIE ANDERSON
    O Superman
    1981 U.S. 7” single @ 33rpm

One of the most inventive, unlikely, baffling, and MOVING “hit” singles of all time.

Just two alternating chords using an Eventide Harmonizer and a Roland VP-330 vocoder, the song was broken and championed by the great John Peel on BBC RADIO 1.

Lyrically, it’s mind bending, and many people, including Anderson herself, has said it’s about many things.

I’m not particularly interested in any of that. Just that when I hear it (still to this day), it strikes such an inexplicable emotional nerve in me that I can’t explain.
It’s a remarkable piece of art.

Perhaps Anderson summed it up best.
    “Technology cannot save you.”

  17. Here's a man who lives a life of danger.
Everywhere he goes he stays - a stranger.
Howdy stranger. Mind if I smoke? And he said:
Every man, every man for himself.
Every man, every man for himself.
    All in favor say aye.

  18. Coo coo it's cold outside.
    Coo coo it's cold outside.
    Ooo coo coo.
    Don't forget your mittens.

  19. I'll never forget it, we had a fight.
Then you turned around turned on the light. You left our bed.
Then you moved downstairs to live with her instead.
Yeah just one floor and a shout away.
I guess I should have moved but I decided to stay.
Did I drink some poison that I don't remember now?

    #LaurieAnderson #lyrics #bot

  20. And you? You're no one
    And you? You're falling
    And you? You're travelling
Travelling at the speed of light.

  21. He said: I had to write that letter to your mother.
And I had to tell the judge that it was you.
And I had to sell the car and go to Florida. Because that's just my way of saying
    (It's a charm.)
    That I love you.
    And I (It's a job.)
Had to call you at the crack of dawn (Why?)
And list the times that I've been wrong.
Cause that's just my way of saying
    That I'm sorry. (It's a job.)

  22. Those are pearls that were his eyes. Nothing of him that doth fade.
But that suffers a sea change. Into something rich and strange.
And I alone am left to tell the tale.
    Call me Ishmael.
