  2. Truth to Power.

Another great episode from The Sunday Shot. This is sooooooo much better than watching Insiders and getting triggered by the inanity of it all.

"Doug Cameron and Josh Bornstein don't hold back with their incisive commentary on the way Labor, the ABC and other institutions are failing us at this critical moment. A cracker conversation."

  4. We will never know the names of the odious, capricious monsters who bullied #Lattouf for the same reasons we will never see the names of the odious, capricious monsters in the sealed section of the #Robodebt RC.

Even though the reason for sealing that section, criminal prosecution, did not happen.

Rich, powerful, well connected. That's how the system works in #Australia

The Lattouf unfair dismissal case is another reminder we live in a society where access to justice for the average punter is a long, costly, public, damaging and tedious process, full of risk, esp if you have been wronged by the powerful. It changes you.

The powerful? Those moral vacuums engaged in bad-faith harassment, offended at factually accurate reporting about another country?

Why, they are gifted privacy, of course, by a system that applies different standards to the rich and connected. And there will be no consequences for ABC management, naturally.

  6. Federal court ruling: ABC loses; Lattouf vindicated.

After a 14 month legal battle over a 5 day contract, an Australian federal judge has ruled that #ABC executives were put into a "state of panic" by a coordinated campaign of complaints from the pro-Israel lobby (& Murdoch press) against Lebanese-Australian journalist Antoinette Lattouf, leading them to unlawfully fire #Lattouf on the basis of her political opinions about Israeli military actions in Gaza.

This is such an important ruling. This is the highest Oz authority thus far to affirm some basic truths: that criticism of Israel's crimes is not antisemitic, that doing so is protected political speech, that firing someone for such speech is unlawful under the Fair Work Act, & that fear of being labelled #antisemitic by the pro-Israel lobby is a real reason why officials might be willing to collude in breaking this law. All basic standards - yet no Australian government (federal or state) has been willing to make any of these points on the record with such clarity for at least 20 months.

Now other employers who fired/disciplined employees over this matter may need to rapidly make amends.

  8. If you think the ABC will stop being editorial cowards thanks to today's decision, you clearly haven't read their reporting on Israel's genocide in Gaza or their illegal declaration of war on Iran. #media #lattouf

  10. Reading the coverage of #ItaButtrose in the #Lattouf #OurABC trial, getting really strong Frost / Nixon "when the president does it, it makes it legal" vibes from Buttrose's reported answers.

  11. Social media should be swamped with more of this:

“ABC staff work tirelessly to build and maintain the ABC’s independence and integrity. It is the board’s legal duty to protect that independence and integrity. But time and again we see ABC chairs and managing directors do the opposite.”

    Source:
    meaa.org/mediaroom/abc-staff-d

Social Media should be swamped by similar statements from ABC employees (anonymously of course) and fair-dinkum journos ought to expose more… we ought to get back our ABC given we cannot fight the dis-misinformation crud our mainstream media outlets are dishing out.

Australians are owed the truth, not propaganda, nor ‘normalisation’ of abhorrent political swill.

  12. Starvation is being used as a weapon of war. Palestinian children are being deliberately starved to death by Australia’s ally.

  14. ↪ Broadcasting Corporation #ABC

Just hours earlier she insists she was told it was going well

But behind the scenes, her appointment to the coveted role had attracted ardent lobbying from pro-#Israel groups who accused her of #antisemitism and bias

#Lattouf - who is of #Lebanese heritage - says she fears the #ABC buckled under external pressure, sacking her based on #political opinion and race

She has launched a wrongful termination case.

  16. ℹ On Dec.20 Antoinette #Lattouf signed off from the #Sydney #radio show she was hosting with a promise she'd be back the next day

    "Can't wait," she told listeners

But the veteran journalist and presenter did not return to the airwaves. Later that afternoon she was sacked, with her boss saying the order had come from "above"

She was only three days into a week-long stint filling in as host of the local Mornings show on the Australian ⏩
