Today is a good day! My dad and I collect depictions of “Virgin and Child with Saint Anne” (or “Anna te drieën” in Dutch). There aren’t that many of them, so imagine my delight when I found one in the museum at St. Francisco’s church in Porto!

I’m in the front of the train. Walked quite a bit to get to the part where there’s literally nobody. Like: 4 empty carriages in a row. The man who walked behind me on the platform got in, and sat down next to me.

Ik ben 1x in Bandung geweest. Primair om de huizen te zoeken/vinden waar het familielid naar wie ik vernoemd ben heeft gewoond, en de school te bezoeken waar ze heeft gewerkt. Ik wou ook de sterrenwacht bezoeken die haar oom had laten bouwen, maar ze waren toen niet open.

@ednl Toen ik er was was het ook bloedheet. Vond dat er best veel fietsers waren. Ik was al eerder in de kathedraal geweest, maar had geen idee dat Radio Kootwijk in verbinding stond met Radio Malabar. Vond het wel tof om over die geschiedenis te leren. Nu weer een extra reden om eens terug te gaan naar Bandung.

I’m on the train, and two women with a baby just got off. Busy train. Baby was very fussy, until… a passenger started distracting the baby with magic tricks 🤯
Sadly I missed the best trick b/c the woman next to me dropped her keys and I helped her search for them, and now the show is over b/c the baby left the train.
Don’t have the self confidence to ask the magician for a private show 🥲

In related news: ik reageer blijkbaar hetzelfde op jonge mannen die dicht om me heen gaan staan, met de zaklamp van hun telefoons in m’n gezicht schijnen en me van zo dichtbij filmen terwijl ze roepen wat een lelijke *bliep* ik ben, als mijn zus reageert op mijn neefjes die een beetje te lomp spelen.

BTW: even though Deutsche Bahn cannot reasonably be blamed for the events that resulted in an unexpected and very brief visit to Japan… I had planned to take a train from the airport to the mainland, but that train wasn’t running that morning, so as I entered the replacement bus, it felt like I still got Deutsche Bahned in spirit…

Another thing I learned today was that the Cham language uses prefixes to create frequentatives.
Unlike English’s suffixes (daze -> dazzle, sniff -> sniffle) and Dutch’s infixes (huppen -> huppelen, klinken -> klingelen).

The answer Tony settled on was that it lasts at least a thousand years because it’s made of sandstone which is so soft that it’ll never crack, unlike marble.
This is obvious BS, but in a romantic enough way that I’m not mad about it. I find that there are many granite and blue hardstone mines, so those seem more likely materials to make a rice grinder from.
A Google search seems to suggest that a granite grinder will last 30-40 years, so I guess we have somewhat of an answer.
