  1. A major financial company in #Australia called #LatitudeFinancial recently leaked records of about 14 million individuals.

What is baffling is that this company only had 3 million customers at the time. This suggests they were keeping for more than 10 years records of e.g. people who inquired or applied for a financial product even though they did not purchase it.

But why not? Individuals in Australia have no control over own data and companies suffer virtually no consequences for leaking all these personal data. So companies just store as much as possible for as long as possible.

  2. Part of one of the emails I received regarding the Latitude cyber theft. Yes, please, I'd like protection from the Australian government... #LatitudeFinancial #auspol #cybersecurity #DataBreach

  3. I’ve had two emails from Latitude Financial regarding their recent, enormous data breach. I have no idea when I may have provided my details to them, “OR OUR PRECURSORS” (my capitals). It would be years ago and no longer active. Fortunately, I decided to follow the Barefoot Investor’s advice about 5 months ago and placed a ban on my credit rating, which, I believe, provides an obstacle to identity theft. I’m no expert so I could be wrong about that. #AusPol #LatitudeFinancial #CyberSecurity

  4. Is it just me, or does it seem like #latitudefinancial drip feeding us information about their hack? 8 million #Australians’ data stolen and every day we keep getting new little morsels of media releases - “oh, yeah they also got your drivers license details from 2005”…

  5. Another major data breach in #Australia by lending company #LatitudeFinancial.

It affects about 8 million current and past customers of multiple financial products including Go Mastercard, CreditLine, 28 degrees, Gem Visa, etc.

The data include names, dates of birth, address, telephone, and passport numbers. In some cases, even financial statements.

    The company statement: cdn-api.markitdigital.com/apim
