Skelbiu find. A Dell Latitude E7470 in great condition (trackpoint nipple needs replacing but they cost under €1).

I5-6300 2.4 GHz, 8 GB RAM (plus free socket awaiting the AI bubble bursting), Intel Wifi+Ethernet, matte 14" FHD display, nice keyboard, trackpoint, even the battery has some life left in it and isn't trying to bust out.

Came with a sad story though - sold in a hurry to finance someones hospital stay 😞

Surprisingly, Dell has the nicest and most complete UEFI implementation I've ever seen.

And a clever solution for how to put a proper RJ45 port on a slim computer without having to resort to flimsy folding contraptions.

From Debian 13 to Devuan 6

I moved another computer to #Debian Trixie over #Devuan Excalibur, but this time the process wasn't so smooth... It looks like this #Dell #Latitude #73XX have some problem with CPU and the NVMe disks and get freezon very often. Moving to Devuan did not help to fix it, only improved (for me) the readability of the logs...

I am very disappointed with these Dell Laptops, perhaps they work fine with Ubuntu based distros, but with Debian/Devuan my experience hasn't been so good. I found that Asus instead has very good compatibility with Debian/Devuan.

How to get the ‘<‘, ‘>’ and ‘|’ keys on a Dell Latitude 5300

Since a while I am using a refurbed Dell Latitude 5300. I’m pretty happy with it. Just recently I was doing some stuff via SSH on my RaspberryPIs when I noticed that the Dell’s keyboard does not contain the ‘<' key. Not a big deal usually - just Linux Shell working is quite uncool without the '>‘ and the pipe ‘|’ characters.

Ich habe schon seit Erscheinen #Sparky #Linux V8 (Debian Trixie, semirolling) ohne jegliche Probleme auf dem alten Hündchen laufen.
Okay, Prozessorgrafik, nur für Büro, Medien, Kommunikation und Shisen Sho in Gebrauch.

It was actually fun to review all those. I was surprised to see NZ on there twice. I had thought Tasmania might be farther south. Also, I was expecting Tonga to be the farthest east I had been, not the farthest west.
