The color comparison is off. Lapis Lazuli was the old ultramarine blue before chemistry industry found was to make it artificially.

Lapis Lazuli is the blue of kings, because it was so expensive. It's a royal blue.

  6. An extraordinary cabinet made in Rome c.1640 using lapis lazuli, the 'stone of heaven' prized throughout history for its bewitching colour evoking gold-speckled clouds on an intense blue sky.

The lapis lazuli would have travelled from the Sar-e Sang mines in the Koksha river valley of Persia, today situated in northern Afghanistan.

This is one of the only cabinets of its kind covered in the rare stone. Belton House, Lincolnshire #furniture #lapislazuli

  8. I don't travel much, but I was in New York City recently, and ended up on the highway outside of the city.

The fact that this landscape in was so close to how "Jersey" is depicted in is absolutely hilarious.

(Yes, I know not all of New Jersey actually looks like this. 😁 )

  9. This is from Attire's Mind's on Facebook: "Skipping backwards into the BCE we find this amazing drinking vessel, a rhyton in the shape of a mountain goat that is carved from a piece of lapis lazuli with solid gold horns. It comes from the 6th to 5th centuries BCE in Persia. Originating within the Achaemenid Empire, sometimes called the First Persian Empire, it was founded by Cyrus the Great in 550 BCE. It was at the time the largest empire up to that point covering over 5.5 million square kilometers.

As a side note a rhyton is a cup in the form of an animal’s head, typically with the drinking vessel arcing upwards behind it."

  10. Today I spent some time working on this magnificent little lapis lazuli Bes amulet at Manchester Museum - the intensity of the colour of the lapis lazuli is just gorgeous, and he still has remnants of gold leaf on his head 😍

  11. Lapis Lazuli. The rock that’s so pretty sometimes it’s confused for a gem. The stone is famously inlaid on King Tut’s tomb. These are new today. #jewelry #earrings #lapislazuli #newyork

  12. I have yet to post any art here. I feel bad about that, so I dug something up.

I drew this back in April when I was just getting into my Copic markers. Peridot and Lapis are my two favorite gems. #stevenuniverse #peridot #lapislazuli #mastoart #copicmarkers #creativetoot
