Some language learning apps gamify word recognition, but it isn't enough.
That's why Lexolotl flashcard drills include Usage Examples — Apple Intelligence and Text to Speech let you see and hear the word you're learning, reinforcing the language.

🔴 The curious origins of four English expressions – including will-o’-the-wisp and against the grain
“The origins of English expressions are often obscure and require deep linguistic and documentary research to be explained. Being phrases, not single words, their intrinsic meanings can be reconstructed by studying old texts and their earliest use.”

Inventing Cyrillic
“In the 890s, having recently converted to Orthodox Christianity, Boris ensured his church would be independent from the Patriarchate of Constantinople. Although interested in their religion, he was clearly concerned with curtailing Byzantine influence in his newly Christianised state. The alphabet offered an opportunity: by adopting it, Boris could ensure that Byzantine culture could not arrive in Bulgaria unmediated.”

Dab-dab and a learned idiom
"One wonders: Are we dealing with a set of relatively late independent creations or a set of old (even ancient) roots, whose reflexes sound like baby words but are still regular nouns and verbs? Opinions on this score are divided (opinions in etymology are always divided), especially because borrowing (take note!) is always a possibility."

My wife said she was going to do a quick, cursory vacuum and then added, "As my grandmother used to say, "Csak ott, ahol a papok táncolnak.". When I asked what that meant, she said, "Only where the priests dance." Such a weird expression. At once it is colourful and almost poetic, but also speaks to insufferable deference priests in Hungary were used to, and probably still are in some parts.
