There are times when #APOD images have the most tenuous link to astronomy.

Quite good chances for #landspout/type II #tornado in northern #Germany today, especially in Schleswig-Holstein. Pronounced surface convergence, steep lapse rates and decent low level CAPE, very weak winds above. Just don't let the cold North Sea air become too dominant. Could also be interesting for Hamburg.

On the afternoon of May 9, a potential #landspout #tornado touched down in the Mission Valley, visible from towns including Charlo and St. Ignatius.

Landspout tornadoes are often weaker, smaller and much shorter lived than supercellular tornadoes on the Great Plains. Because of this, landspouts are rarely detected by Doppler weather radar. Regardless, they are still capable of producing damage.
