A rather productive session in #LaMulana2. I got the mural reader, rescued the treasure fairy and learnt how the Corridor of Blood can be manipulated.

After a bit of searching, I did eventually find the next boss, Jormungand. The battle could be described as a mixture of Ellmac and Palenque from the first game. Like with Palenque, the fight ends before it gets started if you don't have the Pochette Key. And like with Ellmac, getting rammed by the boss is the main danger. But there's also off-screen hazards like missiles to keep track of. Fortunately there are no random elements, so there is a pattern you can detect and exploit.

The progress on #LaMulana2 can go in three ways: You find utility items that help you solve more puzzles. Or you find knowledge to help solve puzzles you already encountered. Or you find a combat upgrade that helps you defeat a boss or a miniboss.
While the latter does make your gameplay easier in general, it can be somewhat frustrating if you don’t have a suitable beef gate ready.

Welp. I had forgotten about the puzzle that enables block-pushing in #lamulana2. It was even the kind of a puzzle you could solve at any time without any prerequisites.

I’ve been replaying #lamulana2. I didn’t finish it at release, but i got around 20 hours in.
Maybe I’ve just gotten used to it, but the fail-and-you-die jumps seem easier this time. On the other hand, the safety margin with minibosses so far seems minimal; I need to follow a very specific song-and-dance routine and bring enough subweapon ammo or it’s going to end badly.
Exploration-wise I know I’m supposed to focus on the Norse gods’ civil war, but going where you aren’t supposed to is fun.

5: LA MULANA 2
Now we’re into the top 5, the games I really love. La Mulana 2 is a TOUGH puzzle-metroidvania. The base game is difficult enough, but throw in puzzles which require you to be paying attention to the game’s lore to have a chance of beating, and this is not for casual players. Nonetheless it’s an awesome game, bursting with mythological figures and moments where you feel like a genius for figuring something out.
