I finally got a chance to see and work with the La Marzocco Pico grinder, up close (this was NOT through any connection with La Marzocco).
IMO, it's basically a copy of the Etzinger Light / Baratza Sette 270 design. Especially when you look at the burr group and mount. The timer one is like $1500+ in Canada (price I think is slightly negotiable if you buy a LM home machine). A GBW version is supposedly in the works, for 2x the price.
It reminds me a bit of what Leica does when they rebrand a Panasonic camera with the red dot and sell it for 2x, 3x the price. That said, LM claims they developed this grinder 100% in house, with no involvement (or copying) Etzinger. I have some doubts on the latter. The burr groups and design of such are crazy similar.
My thoughts: buy the Sette 270Wi or Etzinger instead. You can buy four Sette 270Wi grinders for the price of one La Marzocco Pico with grind by weight features.

OH DEAR. More drama in the espresso world.
Sprometheus' unabashed, total love affair with La Marzocco is over. He says so himself in a video today.
I bet there's a massive back story to this. I know there has to be.
Because i have my own backstory with La Marzocco. The main marketing / sales guy, Scott G., really doesn't like me, and I've become persona non grata with La Marzocco ever since I posted our initial look over eight years ago on the La Marzocco Linea Mini... the one where I called the paddle group a "faux paddle". He really did not like that.
I know a lot of cult-like personality issues come into play with La Marzocco. Basically if you don't constantly pray at their altar, you're a non-person.
NB, I still have my LM GS3 MP, the money pit that it is. I still love it. I still take pride that I was involved in its development.

Nice machine, game changer, ground breaker.
But if I had unlimited discretionary funds and was shopping for a top of the line machine today... I don't think I'd buy the GS3 MP.
I'd buy a Lelit Bianca V3 machine. And a kick ass grinder to pair with it.Will have an article detailing why, very soon.

Something I found out today which is interesting: the Profitec Go has effectively the same size water reservoir (2.7L) as a La Marzocco GS3. LM claims theirs is 3.5l, but I know when it is empty, It only takes about 2.75L of water before it tops out (there's always some left in the bottom).
Impressive (for the Profitec), considering the respective sizes of each machine.

Finally capitulated and bought a shot mirror to use on the #LaMarzocco #GS3 and other #espresso machines. Decided to go a bit premium too - this one's on a nice pillar and can magnetically attach to a back wall as well as the drip tray. Can bend to extreme angles too.
