  1. A Stay In The Lake District #6

    Ascending Cat Bells.

Cat Bells is possibly one of the most popular destinations for walkers in the whole of the Lake District. It is therefore a trek where you may meet a lot of other people. We were there at the end of September 2025, well past the end of the school holidays, so crowds were less of an issue, and we found much of the time we were able to keep plenty of space between ourselves and other walkers.
Having our weekly boat ticket made it simple to set off from the launch base at Keswick. To read the full feature, and see the photographs, please use this link which will take you to Medium, where you will be able to read the whole piece free of charge. If you’re able to ‘clap’ for the piece, please know you can do so up to 50 times, and the more ‘claps’ a post receives, the more exposure it gets on the site. If you decide to explore the platform, you may well decide to become a member, too.

  6. We're Yorkshire through and through. But now and then it's good to check ont neighbours.

Saturday's view from Walla Crag, looking down into the Jaws of Borrowdale.

    Not bad, Cumbria. 👍

  11. A Stay In The Lake District #5

    Friar’s Crag & Strandshag Bay.

After our clockwise boat trip around Derwentwater, we had a break for lunch at Treeby’s Café on Lake Road. It’s a lovely eating place sited on the ground floor beneath the Treeby and Bolton Gallery, accessible either through the gallery or via the entrance on Lake Road.

We then returned to the lakeside to take a look at Friar’s Crag, a small promontory overlooking the lake and Strandshag Bay and giving distant views of the jaws of Borrowdale.

You can read the rest of this post, and see the attached photographs of this beautiful area by using this link to reach the full post on Medium. Don’t worry if you’re not a member, the link will allow you to read the whole piece with no cost. And, who knows, perhaps the introduction to this rapidly developing site for writers will appeal to you!

  33. eclipse season
images taken from the first eclipse earlier this month.

the sky was textured and represented beautifully the interplay of light and dark, depth, perspective.
the scenery was just magic and i will post soon some more images from the location.

note the rainbow effect in the clouds, either side of the sun and moon - you can see details in the close up shots.
