  1. The Origins of St. Brigid's Day & Imbolg.
I look at the origins of what is now a Public Holiday in Ireland. Imbolg is one of the four Gaelic festivals, Brigid a Saint & Goddess.

I'd be very grateful for RTs!

  2. Look, I’m not saying my little offering last night, clipped from my garden’s heather and berries, and placed on the liminal doormat, is what brought the break in the bad weather. But I’m not *not* saying that either, like. #Imbolc #LáFheileBríde #Mastodaoine #Spring #BringTheSpringBrigid

  3. #imbolc is almost here.
"The public holiday [Éire] is observed on the first Monday of February, except for years where 1 February happens to fall on a Friday, in which case the holiday is observed on that Friday instead." -Wikipedia

  7. Have to laugh at the RTÉ Lyric FM presenter saying "Happy St. Brigid's Day and uh, Imbolc, uh....if you follow that kind of thing".

Nice to see #pagan aspects to #Irish culture acknowledged by branches of the national broadcaster even if they can't say the words out loud.

Morait calaind Febrai fross martir mar ngledenn, Brigit ban bale nualann, cenn caid caillech n-Erenn.

They magnify February's calends, a shower of great, pure-coloured martyrs: Brigit the fair, strong, praiseworthy, chaste head of Erin's nuns.

  9. Fascinating article by @john_kilraine about the Journalist's Church, St Brides in Fleet St, probably founded by Irish in 7th century.

The church held its first ever service for its patron saint yesterday. David Mongey of the tourism body "Into Kildare" organised the service.

Mr Monget said his organisation is trying to extend the festival of St Brigid around the world.

  10. I found this poem in a neglected corner of my hard drive yesterday, and thought I'd share it for the new Bank Holiday:

    IMBOLC
    Spring sun on my face
    Illumination from the
    Goddess of meaning

  11. I see at least 2 FG politicians using the #LáFhéileBríde hashtag, and personally, I don't think that Brigid, as Saint or Goddess, would approve of people who voted with their EPP partners in Europe to allow refugees to drown in the Med, or or overseeing the highest rate of child homelessness and food poverty in the history of the Irish State.

  12. Beannachtaí na Féile Bríde oraibh! 🌾 Happy St Brigid’s Day!

Today I joined Irish women in Brussels to speak about St Brigid and what her life means to us now.
