Just a head’s up here’s what’s in store for #LaEsoterica, #MusComEnt, #RetroView & #SatMat this October+ I’m hosting #SymSat & #BaroqueSun on the 24th & 25th with some spooky classical music to pre-game #Halloween

@klu9 Dani picks interesting content. Hence her unique and periodic #LaEsoterica events.

The originator of #SatMat, Ross, was like Matthew in his fondness for utter dreck (hence, the Thanksgiving Marathud )

Once SpaceKaren broke the hellsite, all of these traditions splintered across many hosts and platforms.

Matthew & I chose Mastodon because it WORKS.

Bsky can go DIAF for all I care -- but I still maintain their #WatchParty listings as a joint Fediverse #WatchPartyCalendar ...due TODAY😱

Thanks for tuning in! #LaEsoterica will return October 20th with our annual horror showcase. If you can, drop by #MusComEnt tomorrow for the buddy comedy “Puerto Ricans in Paris” (info➡️ https://mastodon.social/@analgesicsleep/117272389908439013) Enjoy the rest of your Tuesday💕

@MatthewTitus88 I first saw this when it was being projected onto the walls of a party. Pretty sure I didn’t mingle the entire time it was playing
#LaEsoterica

If it’s not yet apparent: Yes, both Joaquín Cociña and Cristóbal León were highly influenced by Stop Motion auteurs Jan Švankmajer and The Brothers Quay

Yes, yes, I know the Post-WWII pigs into human and human into pigs thing is kind of heavy handed but when it’s done over a 5yr process using human sized stop-motion animation & using techniques to make it appear as a One Shot film? I am beyond willing to look past it

“The Wolf House” (2018) is a dark fairytale mostly about a woman who escapes from the colony established in post-WWII Chile by Germans known as “Colonia Dignidad”, which is known for CSA, Torture, Internment and the murder of dissidents during Pinochet's rule

This month’s #LaEsoterica features a good deal of strobing/flickering and A LOT of disturbing imagery and subject matter. If this isn’t for you I recommend this talk that Guillermo del Toro gave about Luis Buñuel’s work in Mexico at TIFF in 2016 (https://youtu.be/WZllND6SX-o?is=Ux68uVMt8GxNZ1M2)

Now for our feature presentation: “La Casa Lobo” AKA “The Wolf House” (2018) (https://ok.ru/video/6787412527818) directed by Chilean creative duo Cristobal León & Joaquín Cociña.

And here’s the music video for Mexican-Lebanese actress, musician and performance artist Astrid Hadad’s “Corazón Sangrante” (https://youtu.be/yWdL7PIOqv4?is=Rx_Q8i-nvpNJ0nwk) from 1993’s directed by Mexican video artist Ximena Cuevas

@MatthewTitus88 She’s likely get along with the Botany music guy from a few months ago
#LaEsoterica

Don’t worry about the subtitles for “En Un Barrio Viejo”. The film is has very little dialogue and mostly utilizes music and ambient/diegetic sounds
#LaEsoterica #EnUnBarrioViejo

“En Un Barrio Viejo” (https://youtu.be/RUVBZY1kkT8?is=pu1GCra6bNe4iqUV) directed by Nicolás Guillén Landrián, an Afro-Cuban experimental filmmaker and painter. His work was highly repressed and heavily censored by the Cuban government but despite this he was able to influence and mentor many young Cuban artists. After being repeatedly jailed and tortured, he left Cuba and lived the final decade and a half of his life in exile in Miami, Florida

Leslie García is a Mexican sound and digital multimedia artist whose work often showcases the marriage of technology and the natural world. Here she’s composing music using the Delta Brain Waves (https://youtu.be/YJLecb39PaM?is=gOapT_bhWhlUKckN) which are usually associated with the what’s known as “Slow Wave Sleep”
