youtu.be/997phZGi5Bk Huh, so literally all #probiotics in bifidobacter and #lactobacillus can be found in fermented foods. Taking the #pills actually hurt the diversity of your #microbiome apparently. People who eat the fiber levels they need boosts diversity but taking pills reduces it even worse even if you eat fiber than if you take nothing. There are a few probiotics I need with #FODMAP , Bacillus subtilus, and #Clostridium species eat #polyols faster that gas producing bacteria. The clostridium often comes with Akkermancia a bacteria that naturally boosts GLP-1s. So ditch the Lacto and Bifido pills and get it from your food.

Norfolk #LongCovid sufferer feels a 'changed person' after taking new #probiotic treatment
April 19, 2022
"In the first study Prof Thomas showed treating the gut to a blend of five different friendly bacteria called #lactobacillus #probiotics, combined with a chicory-rich ingredient known as an #inulin, helped with symptoms.
"In a second study, he found that a capsule containing a mix of other natural substances known as phytochemicals can significantly help further.
"He said: 'In our research group we designed a study looking at whether we could concentrate certain foods which would help some of the symptoms of #Covid.
"'The reason we used a capsule is we are able to concentrate foods in a much greater degree than you'd be able to eat.
"'Also you can take them in the morning, at lunchtime and have the foods that you wouldn't normally in a British diet take at those times. So things like chamomile, pomegranate, #turmeric, citrus bioflavonoids which come from #berries and things.'"

For all their bullshit the right does pick up on some weirdo cultural trend that I think they are correct about every now and then.
I think the idea of consuming human breast milk later in life is going to be the cure to a lot of the #microbiome issues that our society is having now. It obviously needs to be tested for pathogens because those can be transferred but what is considered a healthy microbiome largely consists of that which is transplanted during birth and via breast milk.
We know that specific strains which are plentiful in youth such as #Bifidobacterium decline to make up only about 10% of the microbiome in late 20s and nearly die off completely by 30s. We also know that specific #Lactobacillus strains such as lactobacillus reuteri have declined on the whole since the 90s in US populations both of which are found in breast milk.
We are likely going to find that colonization of the gut requires an entire ecostystem and this is likely why #probiotics on the whole are not useful for altering the micrbiome long term. Breast milk which includes a diverse ecosystem of microbes as well as Oligosaccharides and Lactoferrin being required by the process. Thus far the long term efficacy of Fecal matter transplants ie #FMT being questionable at best is a possible alternative to this.

This is work I've been waiting to see come out for at least a year (two!?). Congrats Ren and the Ludington lab on a very cool study!
Acetobacter and Lactobacillus interact in the gut through Lactobacillus' effect in shaping the gut morphology to reshape in-pockets such that more (and varied) Acetobacter can colonize the niche.
