THE HBC BRIGADES: CULTURE, CONFLICT, & PERILOUS JOURNEYS
I would love to know how Lac la Hache (Axe Lake) got its name, which was given it sometime in the 1820's, or even well before that time. HBC BRIGADES, CONNOLLY'S JOURNAL, 1826:
"After proceeding four hours and a half we baited the Horses at the western extremity of Axe Lake #LacLaHache where we saw a few Indians, who had nothing to dispose of but a few Berries. In the afternoon we went on and Encamped at seven o'clock. Days march about 30 Miles.
