  3. The Resolution Foundation calls Labour's proposed workplace reforms the 'biggest shake-up in a generation.' A bold step for quality work, but will it bring inevitable tax rises and public service cuts?

  4. CW: Political Sketch

"With minutes to go, copies of the manifesto were handed out. Photos of Keir Starmer on almost every page – shades of Boris Johnson in 2019. Even one of Keir with Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Normandy. Another reason for Sunak to kick himself for coming back early."

  5. Labour absolutely should raise Capital Gains Tax to bring it in line with income tax, as well as reforming the outdated council tax and introducing a wealth tax. But none of that is currently politically acceptable given the high levels of taxation under the Tories. #GeneralElection2024 #LabourManifesto

  6. Re-slaying the giants: poverty in the UK 2023 | Labour must stipulate plans to deal with inequality levels that resemble pre-welfare state levels if they wish to win power in 2024 | Dr Pam Jarvis

  7. @Stephenleet @LJClements8 @Spectraliser @OliverNoble

I totally agree - I will wait for the #labourManifesto to be published before making any comment on how they plan to govern

  8. CW: Brexit, UK Labour

    @AngharadHafod

It is the #rejoinEU mob who can't read the room - #starmer knows labour lose if they start promoting that #fantasyProject - it cannot be done for at least a parliament, and will not be in the #labourManifesto
We start from where we are, not where we wish we were

  9. @antipode77

    "needs"?

It is not politically viable at the #nextGE - it will not be in the #labourManifesto which will seek to maximise their majority.

Exactly what do you think has happened in #italy and #israel recently? Coalitions driven by extremists

  10. @arevvik

    good call

We will not have an election called this year I think - but #starmer will not be able to spend 12 months without making some commitments that will have to appear in the #nextGe #labourManifesto

the #NHS is in a terrible state - I expect the #toriesOut to try and leverage that for further privatisation - I expect that to be opposed

  11. @adrianfry @davidstirrup

Well we will see - he made "commitments" to secure the #labourLeaderships that have subsequently been revised

Wehn we get a #labourManifesto that will be a commitment - but it will not include negative promises I supect

  12. @adrianfry @davidstirrup

Never forget #starmer is a #lawyer - and was for many years unlike #planks like #billCash. So he is very cautious making commitments

Let us see what is in the #labourManifesto on the #EU - I suspect he will avoid any commitment till that is published - why would he?

I think an undertaking to join the #singleMarket is unlikely to be in the #nextGE manifesto - but it might be in the one for subsequent GE. I look for signs #labour will align with #EU this time

  13. @RichardHeigl

I think rejoining the #EU is out of scope next parliament because the #eu would not countenance any approach and #starmer will not risk any commitment to #reverse #brexit - electorally I fear he is right to minimise any such talk

What happens after that is to be determined - the #labourManifesto after next is the one that matters

  14. @degsy @jaydax

Not gonna happen, Degsy - only the smaller UK parties will ever propose PR because the two big ones will lose so much

I'd like #freeBread but I do not insist on it in a #labourManifesto

  15. @Vicmeldrew

I understand - my argument is mostly with naive tactics #proEU posts push - you do not resolve the car-crash of the current EU:UK deal by putting something in the #labourManifesto that can't be acheived.

IMO short term much can be acheived under "make brexit work" to help trade - but negotiating #singleMarket entry from where we are now takes more than a parliament - I hope for it in a 2028 #labourManifesto

    leaving #EU was non-trivial - so is (re)joining the #singleMarket

  16. @fencoul

I very much doubt #FPTP will feature in the #LabourManifesto

#lordsReform will - that is more than enough politicalReform for one parliament.

Suggest #Scots get their finger out on #IndyRef2 - that should be the focus north of the border.
