Isn't this stupid?
Surely he resigns as leader of the Labour party, starting the contest, but remains as PM until and unless someone else wins that contests and is appointed on the strength of commanding a majority in the House of commons.
Has he actually resigned, requiring an acting PM to be appointed? Or is GBNews just showing their usual pig ignorance of the UK's political processes and Constitution?

Streeting has bottled it...he is backing Burnham
Someone has to challenge him, there has to be a conversation about what Labour stands for, also considering the amount of Labour MP'S there is, there has to be someone better in there than a man who ran twice, lost and the ran away!
You may have picked up from my posts that I don't like Burnham. All of this smacks of opportunism from a man who couldn't win the leadership in his own right.

Can Starmer last much longer? "The 126 Labour MPs who signed an amendment to block the cuts represent the biggest challenge to his authority to date — and government whips chose to make that explicit, warning would-be rebels this was a confidence issue that could force the PM to resign.
The fact such threats only increased the size of the rebellion cannot fill him with confidence: nor will the public interventions from Labour’s best-known regional magnates, London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Greater Manchester’s Andy Burnham, both thought to aspire to his job."

Bringing the #fatController back will not save the #toriesOut from losing power.
I rather doubt the lazy, lying ego will relish being #loto for an indefinite period after the #nextGE so if they are stupid enough to replace #sunak with him they will again run thru three leaders over a short period.
I wonder - could #starmer break the record for number of #tory leaders faced as #labourLeader ? That would make 5 if you count the ego twice

@InfoLibertarian @LJClements8 @wlarge @mafeesh @FlixtonTom
@OliverNobleWell for those on the #UKleftWing we have had 74 years of #toryLite - given the same criticism from the #labourLeft has been hurled at every #labourLeader who has won any election since 1945.
BTW "Broken Pledge" is not even a thing if the party does not gain power - so easy to be #farLeft and smug in your doctrinal purity
Look up #benn and #chevaline to see what happens when #reality bites an idol of the #farLeft
-
Well the alternative has been true for the last 13 years - having #labour led by #losers perceived to be too left by middleEnglad to vote for
What you call #Tory-lite I call #electable - and many people seem to agree

PS the bit on the graph to the left where #toriesOut led the polls was under the previous, two-time loser #labourLeader
#starmer will get only one chance to winStuff purity on the #opposition benches

@mafeesh @Spectraliser @LJClements8 @OliverNoble
Well it's hard to remember, but #sunak has a majority >60
So I'm not sure any alternate leader would've destroyed the #toriesOut by now (BTW they seem to be doing a pretty good job all by themselves)
Which isn't to say an alternate #labourLeader would not do better - if you exclude #andyBurnham (who excluded himself) who'd you choose in this alternate universe?
My shortlist
#rachelReeves
#lisaNandybut I could be persuaded to AN Other
-
It is noty just #starmer - I have not read anyhing from #lisaNandy #angelaRayner #andyBurnham #rachelReeves or any other #labourLeader pushing for #pr
-
oddly you will not find a single #tory who will agree with you - he is the first #labourLeader since #gordonBrown they fear
the #labourLeft hate #starmer for highlighting the fact that the #UK will not vote for a #labourLeft led #labourParty
The bit on the left of the graph is where #labour trailed under #corbyn

@curmudgeonaf @fencoul @OliverNoble
over-simplistic - our 2 parties (3 in #scotland) are in fact themselves coalitions - you only need to look at the visceral hatred the #farLeft express toward the #labourLeader to see that - and quite what #DominicGrieve ever had in common with #SuellaBraverman escapes me totally.
There are actually just 2 political systems in the world - multi-view democracy, and #dictatorship by an absolute power
-
#Labour never has supported #PR - like the Tories, it is not in their selfish interests.
It is the dilemma in any political system - those in power by definition are those favoured by current arrangements, so naturally they are reluctant to change them.
At least #Starmer is committed to #lordsReform - if he gets that done it would be more than #Blair or any previous #labourLeader managed
-
As a #Labour supporter, I feel nothing but sadness that some are still so dedicated to the two-time loser who ran #Labour before, when it now has a real prospect of displacing the #dreadfulTories - that they prefer to diss the current #labourLeader
I never did even whilst sighing over the hopeless mess that previous leader caused - extending the #cameronToryEra by at least 5 years.
