Fantastic day yesterday with Alex, Fraiser and Thomas. My first #sota as well.

Used my #elecraft #kx2 (with KXUSBC2 & Turret Mic - obviously). First outing for the Spooltenna Ultra paired with the ever trusty Sotabeams Tactical Mini.

I expect Thomas and Alex will be producing field reports, I'll link them in thread when they're available.

Prepping for a #sota #pota activation at North Berwick Law with @qrper (MM5SWL), @GM5ALX and MM0EFI tomorrow.

Went to re-assemble my #elecraft #kx2 (I test every KXUSBC2 board in it before sending) only to find that I've clearly dispatched mine 🤦‍♂️. Swiftly made a new one up and I'm ready to go*

*not at all, haven't packed anything else yet.

First day out on the motorbike for ages. Took the opportunity on the way back to activate #pota GB-2083.

Unfortunately I didn’t manage to get the 10 I needed. The rain caught up with me and I got the final proof I need a new KX2 battery. Still, great fun and awesome scenery!

Back from #SOTA activation on Potzberg (DM/RP-432). Nearly everything went wrong.
Built up inv vee and found out that SWL is infinite. No damage visible. Built up 2nd when I saw a wire breach I could not repair easily. Third antenna: wrong plug, so I decided to use my #KX2.
While logging my connects I found out that my 'smart' watch showed wrong time. So I had to calculate what was the correct logging time.
In the end, 12 QSO on #20m and #40m SSB.

After 32 years as a ham I finally completed my first #pota activation!

Thanks for everyone who hunted me at Kielder Water (GB-1285).

This one was SSB but I hope to add a CW one in the future.

Gear was my trusty #elecraft #kx2 with wire antenna suspended on a SOTABeams tactical mast. Ran off battery and happily chucked out 10w.

40m didn’t give me any contacts (the noise floor was surprisingly high - possibly LED lighting in the cabins?). 20m was great though.

Three easier Summits on the Air hills in South Wales ticked off today including a new one, Allt yr Esgair. New “Slim G” 2m antenna and HT combo didn’t live up to expectations but will persevere.. Good conditions on 20m/17m tho.

Made it out this morning for a #POTA Activation with the @elecraft #KX2 with a Tufteln 2 wire antenna for 23 #CW QSOs across 40/30/17/15m bands.

I’m stunned how well #winlink #VARA HF works with my #QRP #KX2… #hamradio

Has anyone else been an idiot and snapped the BNC connector on their AX1 AXB1 bipod?

Thanks to ‘Angelo’ on printables (https://www.printables.com/model/385370-elecraft-ax1-antenna-clip) I printed a replacement which works very nicely.

I’ve got 8 spare (don’t ask!) , if anyone wants one DM (or email) me for my address, send me a SAE and I’ll drop one in the post.

I guess this is likely only work it for UK people but if you’re happy to pay international postage then I’m game 😀

My first #CW #POTA activation is in the books. It went better than I hoped. #KX2 on 20 and 40 with a long wire. I should not have waited so long! Now to keep practicing. Thanks to all hunters and their patience!

First #Elecraft #KX2 usage impressions:

* it's a #MorseCode machine, QSK is smooooth, narrow filters don't ring at all;

* the internal ATU is scary, it can tune everything and it's very useful for band agility;

* I was afraid the receiver was not as good as the IC-705, especially for very small and very big signals, lab measurements confirm, but I guess it's irrelevant for my usage since I was able to make QSOs all over Europe in these awful propagation conditions.
