Much of what he says is kinda true, but it’s also clear that it’s definitely not Bad Gear…
I bought mine in 1992 from the money I made in the army. So it’s an early revision, and the installation of the sampling option officially involved some soldering.
I think I’ll rent a car next time I visit my parents and bring my K2000 back with me (no idea where to put it, though).

I've read a Slashdot snippet about a special type of idiots who believe that mankind should give way to the superior minds that they hope to build, using simplistic ideas about minds as SW and matter as HW from #Kurzweil, et.al.
I've followed Hackernoon since I thought it's better to know what kind of BS is traded in the #AI and "crypto" scene. Now I found the "pearl" below by a self-described "Organic processor, working for our mother, the machine".

Another breathless puff-piece for the Singularity is near cult — this time from Popular Mechanics. Ray Kurzweil reckons we'll merge with AI by 2045, transcend biology, live forever... etc etc . The same techno prophecy peddled for decades, repackaged as inevitability.
Meanwhile, the real threats of AI, mass surveillance, algorithmic control, synthetic media, weaponised misinformation aren't mentioned.
This isn’t a prophecy. It's a billionaire's fantasy masquerading as science.

I’ve been on this orbiting rock for almost three quarters of a century and if I was given an extra year for every statement in the vein of:’it feels like we're on the cusp of multiple breakthroughs’, I will live longer than Methuselah.
Still these kinds of statements represent an undefined emotion which feels like I’ve got my toes over the edge of something revolutionary that is about to happen. I curse #Kurzweil and his devilishly clever book for awakening me to this emotion which had hitherto remained bogged in my subconscious. I have, ever since reading Kurzweil’s book, endured a decade and a half of ‘toe hanging’ on that edge, waiting, hoping, enthralled by an adrenalin-filled expectation that something, somewhere, soon will deliver the promised mana.
If the last fifteen years are any guide, I will die on the edge of that precipice. Or maybe, just maybe, if we are all lucky, I will get to dive into my salvation.

I'm not sure if I posted this before (or if I even read it all when I bookmarked it) but I just took a few minutes to go through it carefully (it's LONG) but it's good. I know a lot of people are burned out by the AI crap (I pretty much am) but this really gives a good rundown on the history, the sci-fi and the future. Man, these dudes seriously wanna live forever (but WHY? Have they ever seen a vampire movie??) Anyway. It's a great long read if you have time.
