KURTIS BLOW
Kurtis Blow
1980 Canada pressingA funky #HipHop classic on a Sunday afternoon!
“The Breaks” was a pivotal song for the history of the genre.
Blow was the FIRST rapper to sign with a major label, and the first COMMERCIALLY viable hip-hop figure.
THAT song was also the FIRST gold record for the genre.
A HALF A MILLION COPIES is insane for a rap single in 1980.
The industry was still afraid of that shit, and Blow blew the doors down for a lot of rappers, and had a lot to do with legitimizing rap and hip-hop as a viable industry and business model.Kurtis Blow.

2. Richard Coles of #TheCommunards became a Church of England reverend and Vicar of Finedon

» #RapMusic was very much a sub-culture which was remained relatively unknown to the average American on the street.
While there had been artists like #GrandmasterFlash #AfrikaBambaataa & #KurtisBlow
who had been rapping since the mid-1970s,only The #SugarhillGang cracked the Hot 100 in #1979 with ‘Rapper’s Delight’
as the genre continued to operate outside of the mainstream «
