Watched Akira Kurosawa's Dreams (1990) today. Highly recommend it.
Decades later, with all our VFX and resolution, its aesthetics still beat most films. It's a work, not a movie with a shelf life.
Every segment opens on a frame that looks like a painting. I hike a lot and always hunt for that kind of camera angle. It comes down to instinct and taste.
To me it maps three stages of life: childhood fears, adult pain over work, and in old age, meaning and our place in nature.
