  1. Seattle–Tacoma International KSEA → Boeing Field KBFI

What do you do if the start and destination airports are just 5 nautical miles apart?

Of course, you take a little detour over Mount Rainier and watch the sunrise from up there!

But first, you’ve got to get up there …

  6. Portland International KPDX → Seattle–Tacoma International KSEA

A scenic route past the famous and jaw-dropping Mount St. Helens, all while keeping the equally legendary Mt. Rainier constantly in sight.

Time flew by way too fast, because the Lancair Evolution seems to be all about one thing: covering ground quickly.

  16. Spotted at PDX today: Boeing 737 MAX10 prototype #2 N27752 flying as Boeing 102 did a touch&go on Runway 28R at Portland International Airport #KPDX. Boeing test pilots flew it out of Boeing Field #KBFI. They also did touch&gos at Seattle-Tacoma #KSEA and Moses Lake #KMWH before coming to PDX. This is only the 2nd time I've seen a MAX10 in flight, first at PDX (previously at PAE in 2023.) FAA certification of the MAX10 is expected later in 2026. #B3XM #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW

  17. Spent a half hour pushing 3" of very heavy, very wet snow off my car just now

Car sits centered on the ridge line of a 2-story condo, hard up against the north side, so it doesn't get any direct sunshine four months out of the year

If I don't get the snow off today while I can move it and it freezes hard overnight (32-33F degrees forecast) I'll have my car entombed in 3" of Cascade Concrete tomorrow

    So...

  21. Here's why it's snowy in Seattle and rainy in Portland. A temperature difference indicates and prog chart confirms a front between them, with Seattle on the colder side of it. Even though some planes are diverting, some are making it into SEA. @JetTip indicates there were 20 diversions at #KSEA, 8 of them to #KPDX. But at the same time I checked ADS-B and saw an Alaska 787 landed at SEA on its first attempt. (If that one had diverted, camera📷 was ready.) #aviation #travel #weather #avgeek #PNW

  22. I mean, do people have lobotomies when it snows, or what?

Just saw somebody in a very late-model 2-door sporty coupe, maybe an Acura, maybe a BMW 7-series, drive out the dead end street right outside my office windows and turn right onto the road into town.

His entire right-side windows were entirely -- entirely -- covered with snow

Maybe an inch-plus on the roof

He's not going to be able to see *anything* off to the right side of him -- nothing -- no passenger-side mirror either

"I know it's snowing but I'm driving straight ahead and I know exactly where I'm going. Why would I need to see anything out to my right side?"

    Good lord...

  23. Welp…

Hot damn… it's actually *snowing* here

Puget Sound lowlands, at about 250 feet above sea level on an island surrounded by 50 degree salt water 600 feet deep off to the east toward the mainland

Doppler radar on Precip Depiction mode shows a good-sized wedge of cold blue air pointing out to the west, so it looks like it may keep snowing for a while

"Winds, heavy rain leave thousands without power across western Washington

WASHINGTON STATE — Strong winds and steady rain moved through western Washington on Wednesday, knocking out power to tens of thousands of customers and toppling trees across the region.

Utilities reported widespread outages as gusty conditions intensified throughout the afternoon and evening."

  29. Alaska Airlines completed repainting #N780HA, the 2nd of 5 #Alaska787 planes in Aurora Borealis livery. It flew from Fort Worth Meacham Field #KFTW to Seattle #KSEA this morning to re-enter service. It took 3 weeks for repainting. The next ones may take less time - filed and canceled flight plans looked like they wanted to get it out before last weekend's ice storm. At the same time, next plane in line #N781HA flew from SEA to FTW for repainting. flightaware.com/live/flight/N7 #aviation #travel #avgeek

  30. Video: Boeing 777-9 prototype #3 N779XY touch and go on Runway 10R at Portland International Airport #KPDX this afternoon. Welcome to Oregon! The Boeing test pilots did touch & go's at Seattle-Tacoma #KSEA and Portland #KPDX on today's test flight. The flight originated from Seattle Boeing Field #KBFI and later landed back there after touch & go's at MWH and PAE as well. #aviation #business #travel #avgeek #PNW

  31. Boeing 777-9 prototype #3 N779XY departing Portland International Airport on a very brief touch-and-go visit this afternoon. Boeing test pilots flew this 777-9 prototype to Seattle-Tacoma #KSEA and Portland #KPDX today. I'm sure we'll see more soon as FAA certification progresses. #aviation #business #travel #avgeek #PNW

  32. Thanks to a @JetTip alert, I see Boeing's 777-9 ("777X") prototype N779XY has flight plans scheduled today as BOE003 to SeaTac #KSEA & Portland #KPDX. So far test flights haven't gone much to airline hubs. This may be a hint that testing is getting increasing simulation of airline service prior to FAA certification. I've been expecting we'll see them in Portland when some of the backlog of unpainted airframes in Everett come here for paint. This is a bonus early visit. #aviation #travel #avgeek

  33. I'll skip most of the miscellaneous pictures of Alaska, Delta and United narrowbody departures. But this one was different because it's international, a WestJet 737-700 C-GWBT departing Seattle SEA to their hub at Calgary YYC. #KSEA #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW

  34. Just to link to the other topic thread, with the other planespotting pictures I'll link here to the arrival of the Alaska 787 at SEA since that was the main event for today's trip to Seattle. Those pictures alone would have been enough to call today's trip a success. avgeek.social/@ikluft/11591982 #KSEA #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW

  35. ANA's Pickachu special livery 787-9 wouldn't usually get any interest from me. But it's a 787 and it showed up around the same times the Alaska 787 came and went. So I took pictures of it too. Here ya go... #KSEA #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW

  36. I'll post a separate thread for other pictures from my planespotting trip to Seattle today. The Alaska 787 in new Aurora Borealis livery has its own ongoing thread. So those pictures went there. But of course I saw more planes there. Here were some from a spot with views of the 16L/16C/16R approaches and some of the taxiways. #KSEA #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW

  37. I went for a day trip to Seattle today to try to catch the #Alaska787 #N784HA with Aurora Borealis livery. For the takeoff, I found a spot with better lighting, putting the late-afternoon setting sun behind me. #KSEA #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW

  38. I went for a day trip to Seattle today to try to catch the #Alaska787 #N784HA with Aurora Borealis livery. I got it! The weather was perfect except for unavoidable low sun angle of winter. The spot where I was for the landing didn't have ideal lighting and got the shaded side of the plane. #KSEA #aviation #travel #avgeek #PNW

  39. Some #avgeek musings: I wonder how much Alaska's 787-10 orders influenced Delta's. Delta has been trying to chip away at Alaska's dominance in Seattle by opening a long-haul hub there. After Alaska acquired Hawaiian, they announced Seattle-Rome 787-9 service. Delta countered SEA-FCO on A330-900neo. Both planes are equal seat-mile efficiency. But Delta couldn't compete at SEA with Alaska once their 787-10s start to arrive. Suddenly Delta orders 787-10s. 🤔 #KSEA #aviation #business #travel #PNW
