Remembering Krzysztof Eugeniusz Penderecki (1933-2020), the innovative, multiple Grammy-winning Polish composer and conductor, born in Debica on this day. He rose to international fame via Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima, written for 52 strings in 1960, and his place in film history was secured by the haunting use of his work in The Exorcist (1973), The Shining (1980), Wild at Heart (1990) and Shutter Island (2010).
