I was fixing some #Krunner plugin to result better matches.
Being through my use of #Emacs also #Lisp guy made me want to go trough a list like in lisp,
with a while-let unfortunately #CXX doesn't have such a feature.
The first other result I got was about #rust. It does awfully look like lisp from that point of view.
Just the syntax is pretty weird seeing it from that angle. -

I loveeee #KDE 's #Krunner functionality to quickly gimme currency conversions - it's one of many nice tools u have on #macOS with #Spotlight. What'd be a nice improvement tho, is for it to default the results to YOUR local currency - like what #Apple 's Spotlight does. That way, you can skip explicitly specifying the currency you wish for it to convert to.
I'd investigate the code myself to see if I could write the changes needed for this, or at least create a FR, but I genuinely can never remember where to do so lol. Screw #GitHub, but projects on GH are a loooot easier/more accessible for people to report issues or submit PRs too. -
Apps like Raycast, KRunner, Alfred, and Spotlight are commonly called Application Launchers. They’re so much more than that though. If you really about it — They’re really GUI Command Lines. GCL for short.

Do any #Linux/#KDE users have an idea why an app, on a #KDEPlasma desktop, might start fine on the terminal, and application launcher, but not on #KRunner?
This has been happening for a long time now for me with #virt-manager - tho that wasn't the case in the past for just as long. That being said, IIRC it's happened with the application launcher too, tho that works for me atm, but KRunner almost always fails to launch it - only the app icon appears to be loading on the dock/panel, then it disappears.
When it does happen, journalctl would report this error:ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'libvirt'
---
Update: found the culprit - #toshy, which is a really cool keymapping tool I use on my desktop that replicates #macOS like keybinds on a Linux desktop.
It's something to do with their #Python virtualenv that's somehow being used by KRunner, that isn't being used elsewhere like on my shell terminal or application launcher. The missing python library isn't installed on that Toshy virtual env - expectedly. Not sure what to do about it just yet.
---
Update 2: Issued a bug report on Toshy, to see if they would know if this is something they could fix. A lot more context to this issue and my debugging could be found in that report.
---
Final update: It's a known issue caused by Toshy, and it's been fixed since March - I updated it and it works perfectly now YIPPEE <3

#KRunner
Alt + space ?
https://userbase.kde.org/Plasma/Krunner -
I posted about this a while back but I guess the bug still exists, and it’s so stupid how easily reproducible it is.
There’s a bug on #KDE Plasma, or perhaps #Krunner specifically, whereby writing a bunch of (ridiculously) simple math equations (i.e. 1+10+15+4, and so on) would keep increasing RAM usage RAPIDLY to the point that your entire desktop would freeze - needing a complete power cycle to your computer.
I literally have 32GB of RAM - that ain’t enough on a #KDEPlasma desktop apparently. It’s so fucking stupid - I’ve a long running task going on in the background too (and no - that wasn’t a factor, my RAM usage was sitting at ~30% before shooting to 98% while I was doing the calculations). -

#Krunner froze my entire #KDE Plasma desktop just from writing up a 'long', simple math equation while I was calculating some of my expenses lol. My desktop is completely unresponsive now and I couldn't do anything about it, not even Caps Lock on my keyboard respond. All I can see is my applet that monitors RAM usage last reported to be at 97%.
I'm sure about half of it is probably #Firefox, but I'm also certain the rest was caused by Krunner since I wasn't really doing anything else - as much as I love KDE Plasma, time and time again I'm getting closer and closer to upgrading to 64GB of RAM, which sounds hellllla ridiculous for a regular ol' desktop and not a homelab server.
Forreal tho, as much as I despise #macOS, how is it that my #MacBook Air M1 can fly with pretty much the same workflow with just 8GB of RAM and never encounter any types of freezes, at most it just feels sluggish (which is just a regular macOS thing), meanwhile this much more powerful machine with 32GB of RAM just freaking... dies from doing simple math calculations on Spotlight? -
I'd be so happy whenever I get to use #Krunner reliably again on #KDE Plasma 6 like it was in Plasma 5.27 bro. Whenever I hop on the desktop on my #SteamDeck, I'm reminded by how gooood we ate previously on #X11 (AFAIC). Now on my Plasma 6 #Wayland desktop, I've to use the application launcher like a pleb - in some extremely rare cases I even have to launch apps from the terminal lmao.
RE: https://floss.social/users/kde/statuses/114364089340464610 -
#KDE’s #Krunner has become so impossible to launch (reliably) since #KDEPlasma 6 presumably due to #Wayland, that I’ve regressed to launching apps from the terminal instead like a friggin pleb 🙂
-
I'm kinda puzzled with why when I try to run #virt-manager (Virtual Machine Manager), from the application launcher or something like #KDE's #Krunner, it'll fail with this error:
Feb 11 19:13:11 calcifer virt-manager[244999]: ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'libvirt' Feb 11 19:13:11 calcifer systemd[1046]: app-virt\[email protected]: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE Feb 11 19:13:11 calcifer systemd[1046]: app-virt\[email protected]: Failed with result 'exit-code'.
but if I launchvirt-managerfrom the terminal, it'll launch just fine. It's worked all the while before, till this issue started happening a while ago and I just haven't bothered to debug it or attempt to fix it. Any idea? -

#KDE's #KRunner keeps failing to launch on #KDEPlasma 6, #Wayland with this error:
What was an amazing and reliable tool has become more and more useless by the day - for almost every bug or feature regressions I've encountered, Wayland's almost always the culprit 99% of the time.krunner[293367]: qt.qpa.wayland: eglSwapBuffers failed with 0x300d, surface: 0x5897e62cc2c0
It's been reported since at least 6 months ago.

I can't fucking copy, paste anything reliably in the many months since upgrading to #KDE Plasma 6... sigh. Never take basic features for granted I guess 😴
Even something I've used A LOT since fully migrating to #Linux on #KDEPlasma, which is #KRunner has gotten terrible since the upgrade. More often than not, that thing simply does not launch until multiple tries - a couple of times it even hard crashed and needed to be killed and restarted using System Monitor.
Same issue with #Spectacle, the screenshot utility on KDE. -
#DrogieFedi pytanie w kwestii #Linux.owej
#TIL, ze moje #KDE ma cos takiego jak #KRunner - da sie tam jakos zmienic wyszukiwarke, zeby zamiast #DuckDuckGO korzystac z #Kagi?
-
I notice, since #KDEPlasma 6, #Krunner's no longer as reliable to launch. Previously on #KDE Plasma 5.27 (on #X11 instead of #Wayland, if that matters, who knows), it always launched super quickly and never failed.
Heck, even faster than #Spotlight on #macOS (which is consistently dog slow). On Plasma 6 though, on multiple systems, I've noticed that it has the tendency to fail to launch with a rather useless error,Remote peer disconnected.
Pretty annoying. -
That popup that appears to show your audio level when you change the volume through the keyboard shortcut that's supposed to be at the center on #KDEPlasma, it's been appearing in the top left for me.
It's a bug.. right? How do I get it back to the centre cos I'm pretty sure it happened after the #KDE Plasma 6.2.0 update (KF 6.7.0) and that it's persisted through a reboot. Nbd all in all, but pretty funny. I'd be more annoyed if it was #Krunner instead. -
is there a way to get krunner to show favorite applications first? It remembers what you last used in a search until krunner restarts. For instance I have firefox as a favorite app in kick off, krunner should offer that before the firewall configuration app.
-
For some reason #KDE #Plasma started with "exec dbus-launch --exit-with-x11 ck-launch-session startplasma-x11" from .xinitrc does not start Plasma with $HOME but with root as working directory.
That means that all programs started via #KRunner are started in the root dir as well.
Even after Googling for this problem for quite some while now, I have not found out where the cwd comes from or how to change the Plasma and/or Krunner cwd back to $HOME.
Does anybody know how to fix this?
This is on #FreeBSD for what it's worth...
