  1. In granting a preliminary injunction, Rossi also prohibited #KristinaKaramo from holding herself out as chair of the #MichiganRepublicanParty, from conducting business in the name of the state #GOP & from accessing party bank accounts.

  2. Rossi said there were sufficient votes to unseat #KristinaKaramo in a Jan 6 special meeting of the party's state cmte, & it was a decision that was "permitted" by the bylaws of the MI #GOP. The judge's decision, for now, means that fmr US Rep Pete Hoekstra is the chairman of the MI #Republican Party in the eyes of the #law.

"Any actions of Ms. Karamo since Jan. 6, 2024, purporting to be taken on behalf of the #Michigan Republican state cmte are void & have no effect," Rossi said.

  4. Trump’s endorsement of Hoekstra could help quell MIGOP chaos, strategists say

As the Michigan Republican Party remains divided between two chairs, former President Donald Trump has weighed in on the dispute.

In a post on his Truth Social account Friday, Trump shared his support for Pete Hoekstra, who some members of the party elected as chair at a Jan. 20 meeting. Hoekstra, a former U.S. representative, served as an ambassador to the Netherlands during the Trump administration.

“Pete will make The Republican Party of Michigan GREAT AGAIN, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be its Chairman — HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN,” Trump wrote.

  5. Michigan GOP descends into chaos amid an escalating leadership battle

After weeks of infighting, no one knows who’s in charge of the Michigan Republican Party.

Kristina Karamo, who was elected chairwoman last year, insists she still has the job, even after a sizable group of state party committee members voted to oust her this month. She refuses to leave the post, even as the opposition’s pick to replace her, former Ambassador Pete Hoekstra, issues statements under the state party logo declaring himself the chairman.

The leadership crisis has resulted in chaos and confusion in what’s expected to be a top battleground state for control of the White House and Senate in 2024.

The anti-Karamo faction has asked a court to settle the matter and on Wednesday received some validation from Republican National Committee lawyers, who said an initial review had determined that Karamo had been “properly removed.” But the RNC stopped short of recognizing Hoekstra as the new chair, saying neither he nor Karamo would be credentialed as a voting member at the national party’s winter meeting next week in Las Vegas.

“Following the RNC Winter Meeting, a body of RNC Members will move quickly to review this dispute and make such recommendation as they believe appropriate,” RNC chief counsel Matthew Raymer and North Carolina GOP Chairman Michael Whatley, who serves as the RNC’s general counsel, wrote in the letter, which was obtained by NBC News.

The dispute also threatens to make a mess of the state party's March 2 presidential caucuses, where most of Michigan's delegates to the national convention will be awarded. In their letter, Raymer and Whatley noted the urgent need for a resolution, given the "important implications for the presidential delegate selection process in Michigan."

  6. Election denier Kristina Karamo voted out as Michigan Republican party chair | Michigan | The Guardian

A group of Michigan Republicans voted on Saturday to remove Kristina Karamo as state party chair after months of infighting and slow fundraising raised concerns her leadership would hurt the party’s chances in the key swing state in 2024.

Karamo, a former community college instructor and election-denying activist who was elevated to her post in February, has indicated she would not respect Saturday’s vote, setting the stage for a potentially messy court battle over party leadership.

At a special meeting called by critics of Karamo, nearly all of the state committee members present voted to remove her from her post, according to Bree Moeggenberg, a state committee member who helped organize the meeting in Commerce Charter Township.

“We have voted to remove Kristina Karamo as the Chair of the Michigan Republican Party. It is now time to collaborate and grow forward,” Moeggenberg said in a statement.

After running unsuccessfully for Michigan secretary of state in 2022, Karamo ran for the party’s top position with a promise to break free from the big donors she vilified as part of the “establishment” while expanding the base of small donors.

She has failed to deliver on that promise while angering many of her supporters with what they have called a lack of transparency from her administration. Contributions from the party’s largest donors have dried up, leading to a cash crunch.

  7. 'Put an end to the chaos': GOP leaders in swing state say party is 'on the verge of imploding'

Infighting within the Republican Party's ranks has not only been apparent in the halls of Congress: It's now also threatening the stability of the GOP's operations in a state that's played a deciding role in the last two presidential elections.

According to a Saturday report in the New York Times, eight of Michigan's 13 Republican congressional district Republican Party chairs have now co-signed a letter asking Michigan GOP chair Kristina Karamo to resign and "put an end to the chaos." The letter came after approximately 40 of the party's state committee members called for a meeting to discuss Karamo's future by the end of the year. However, that meeting has yet to take place. Meanwhile, the Mitten State's Republican leaders are growing more anxious by the day about their party's outlook next year.

"The Michigan Republican Party is on the verge of imploding. I have more money in my campaign account than the state party has in its,” State Representative Mark Tisdel said. “Sooner or later, the creditors are going to come calling.”

  8. Michigan GOP leaders seek Karamo’s dismissal as report alleges the party is facing bankruptcy

A former Michigan Republican District chair, and one-time staunch supporter of Kristina Karamo, says there are enough votes to oust her as state GOP chair.

“We’ve got the votes. She’s gone,” Warren Carpenter told the Michigan Advance on Monday.

Carpenter, who resigned in September as chairman of the 9th Congressional District’s Republican committee, sponsored the research in a 140-page report titled, “The Failed Leadership of the Karamo Administration,” which was released Sunday night. Failed Leadership of Karamo Administration(29659620.3)

It is being used by a group of dissident Republicans within the party to try and oust Karamo as chair at a special meeting set for Dec. 27. On Monday, Oakland County Republican Party Chair Vance Patrick added his name to that list.

  13. New leak paints 'alarming financial picture' of Michigan GOP: report

The Detroit News reports that the Michigan GOP's bank accounts have dwindled to a mere $93,000, a small fraction of what the party typically has during this point in an election cycle.

Writing on Twitter, Detroit News reporter Craig Mauger says that GOP insiders believe the paltry amount of money in the party's bank accounts paints an "alarming financial picture."

  14. MIGOP meeting melee prompts further questions about Karamo’s leadership and party’s finances

The leadership, direction and finances of the Michigan Republican Party are being questioned following a physical melee that broke out at a state committee meeting over the weekend.

Saturday’s special gathering at the Doherty Hotel in Clare came amid public questioning of the leadership of new Chair Kristina Karamo, specifically how party funds were being raised and spent. Karamo was elected in March in a crowded field after her unsuccessful secretary of state bid last year.

However, the event instead made national headlines when a party member and a county party chair got into a scuffle that brought out police and could result in charges.

Mark DeYoung, chairman of the Clare County Republican Party, told the Detroit News that he was attacked by Wayne County Republican James Chapman when he opened a locked door Chapman was trying to open.

“He kicked me in my balls as soon as I opened the door,” DeYoung told the News, adding that Chapman then slammed him into a chair, breaking his rib and requiring a trip to the emergency room.

Chapman alleges DeYoung took a swing at him first, prompting him to remove his glasses.

“When you see me taking my glasses off, I’m ready to rock,” Chapman was quoted by the News as saying.
