Nice to find someone who has done #SuioRyu #koryu at the startup workshop I was leading today in Lappeenranta! The workshop was using aikido principles but didn’t expect one of the guys would be into koryu. Completely random :)

Is there anyone who does #iaido or #koryu #kenjutsu who would recognise the chiburi from this kata (#AikiToho by #aikido sensei #Nishio)?

I’m not sure how well the hive mind on Mastodon will work but I’ve been looking for the answer for some time. Some charts list it as a chiburi from #SuioRyu while others don’t. High ranking people from Suio Ryu didn’t recognise it. A practitioner of Aiki Toho stated error in table. But I haven’t been able to link to any other school.

Furthermore, we can mock and jeer at Nietzsche for simplistic views, all we want, but it's true. Monsters won't fall to sweet, innocent people.

To be able to kill a monster you must partake of the willingness to visit violence (not necessarily in physical sense, please notice that) that they have towards others.

There is a form of sacrifice one must make, sometimes you need to put away the sweetest, best part of yourself in order to bring an end to true evil.

The sword that kills is also the sword that allows life, but make no mistake, you are still taking a life. Wish more people heeded the simple, stark lessons of old #Koryu

I am not saying I disregard traditional form, after all I started in #Koryu #sword, but the fucks I give about promotion and rank advancement, at this point, are best described when elevated to a irrational number. Meh.

People criticise #Aikido for a lack of striking in it's curriculum.
What they don't realise is that O'sensei's early students were already highly ranked yudansha in #Judo, #Karate, #Kendo and #koryu ryuha.
He didn't need to teach how to punch, kick or grapple, because they already knew that.
Instead he taught what they didn't know, 'takemusu aiki'.
In those early days, Aikido didn't have a striking curriculum because it didn't need a striking curriculum.
