A provocative example is the case of #Korkoneas, the policeman responsible for the murder of the comrade Alexandros #Grigoropoulos. The judicial system was quick to secure his early release. Such special treatment was also accorded to the police officers who deliberately killed Nikos #Sambanis in Perama and to the prison guards who tortured to death #IlirKareli, who were acquitted."

🆘 #Michailidis_Hungerstrike #hungerstrike #Μιχαηλίδης 🆘
The Lamia Court of Appeal (Phthiotis, #Greece) rejected the request for a conditional release of the 30yo hunger striker Yannis Michailidis.
He has completed the minimum legal term (8.5y) of his sentence and his life is now in imminent danger, according to the doctor who treats him. Yiannis Michailidis had been in hunger strike for 67 days and he has lost 20.6 kilograms (more than 28% of his original body weight) while suffering severe pain in his spleen, left kidney and chest. He is facing the risk of falling into a hypoglycaemic coma, which, since he is isolated outside the clinic in a special detention area, may not be detected in time. The risk of renal failure is also high and is exacerbated by metabolic disorders and severe ketoacidosis. His doctor warned that a negative decision "will lead a young man to a certain, torturous and quick death".
Michailidis is one of the perpetrators of the robbery in Velvento, Kozani, a friend of Alexis #Grigoropoulos. Coincidentally, the Lamia Court of Appeal decided a month ago to release #Korkoneas on the grounds of a prior legal life (with the jury's votes, of course, but much has been written about how the court's attitude led to such a decision).
