I am a long-term #KDEPIM user and recently read that due to progress in #SQLite’s performance #Akonadi is now defaulting to that DB on a fresh install.

A few days ago I took the chance and ran `akonadi-db-migrator --newengine sqlite` and it was both painless and I definitely see both lower resource consumption and the PIM suite seems much snappier too!

Is #Thunderbird really the only standalone #Linux desktop calendar app that can just subscribe to #CalDAV calendars? 🤨

#GnomeCalendar needs a ton of dependencies and #GNOME stuff running.
#KOrganizer the same for #KDE.
#Evolution apparently just hooks into GNOME online accounts.

There are some terminal calendar apps, but yeah... If one has #vim keybindings and is configurable via config files, I am open to suggestions.

Anyone else using #KDE #Korganizer to sync their #Nextcloud calenders and getting authentication errors and invalid logins lately?

Something on my system appears to forget their Nextcloud creds after reboot, leading to many repeated failed login attempts which, in turn, results in my IP being blocked for new logins.

I think its Korganizer because when I set a new app-password there, the issue disappears. Now I'm wondering if its just me or a general bug?

@ts-new Ich seh gerade wie zufrieden ich wohl bin, seit ich #LibreOffice bzw. davor #StarOffice und OpenOffice nutze. Ach ja, das "restliche Office" wird bei mir von #Kmail, #KOrganizer & Co ergänzt, zusammen mit meiner NextCloud, auch wenn ich mein Onlinegestrüpp langsam zurückbaue.

Es funktiert einfach, zuverlässig, und schnell. Fairerweise habe ich aus o.g. Grund keine Erfahrungen mehr mit #MSOffice seit 2007. Jaja, das zeigt zwar dass ich unheimlich alt bin, aber auch, dass ich das teure Gerümpel nie wirklich gebraucht habe. Allerdings sehe ich das ja oft genug (mitz gesundem Abstand) bei Freunden und Bekannten. :smile:

Ha! Ich hab nie drauf geachtet, aber wegen dieser Unterhaltung habe ich mal geguckt... und ja: LibreOffice startet mittlerweile wirklich rasend schnell. Ich hab es nur nie bemerkt, weil es immer gut und im laufenden Betrieb zuverlässsig gelaufen ist. Einmal gestartet, brauche ich nichts mehr zu tun, bis ich abends den Rechner ohnehin wieder runtergfahren hab.

Mit dem Gedöns von #WinzigWeich war das Utopie, soweit ich mich zurückerinnern kann. :smile:

Klasse, oft geht vieles einfach mal unter.

Ich bin erstaunt, dass "so viele" #Kmail nutzen. Wenn ich mich umhöre habe ich immer den Eindruck, ich wär der einzige in meinem Dunstkreis, der damit unterwegs ist.

Fairerweise muss ich aber auch dazu sagen, dass es (bei mir) bis vor zwei, drei Jahren manchmal auch ein Kreuz gewesen ist, damit zu arbeiten: Mit beinahe jedem Update hat irgendwas plötzlich wieder funktioniert, dafür was anderes nicht. Egal mit welcher Distri ich rumgespielt hab. Trotzdem gab und gibts für mich nichts pratischeres. 😊

Bin mal gespannt... den Laptop meines Mannes machen wir demnächst auch zur 100%-Linux Maschine - er möchte auch KMail, #Korganizer & Co. 😁

Saw many bad reviews on Discover regarding #kmail , #korganizer and the like and I wonder why? I have been using them for 6 months with Proton and Gmail and they seem to all work fine and neatly integrated. What am I missing?

@at69 #FairEmail ist jeden Cent der Unterstützung wert, ich benutze es nun schon mehrere Jahre auf dem Android Ackerschnacker.

Daneben noch #JtxBoard für Aufgaben und Journale, weil es sich via DavX so schön über meine #NextCloud mit #Korganizer & Co verknüpfeln lässt. Auch, wenn ich immer weniger am Rechner bzw. online erledige, weil ich wieder vermehrt auf Papier, Füller & Schreibmaschine zurückgreife... das sind tolle Tools, die ich gerne unterstütze. :smile:

Mehr brauch ich eigtl. nicht, um einigermaßen glücklich zu sein im täglichen Gedöns. Sowas wie Notiz- und Adressbücher - ganz gleich, ob als App auf em Ackerschnacker oder auf'm PC - brauche ich nicht, weil ich das, von einigen wenigen Telefonnummern abgesehen, viel lieber im Notizbuch, so richtig mit Füller und Papier, bei mir habe. :smile:

Every time I want to remove a calendar account under KDE in the KOrganizer, the entire desktop freezes and the only thing left to do is to press the switch-off button on the computer.

And what's even worse: at the beginning the calendars are synchronized correctly - but after a while the sync doesn't work anymore, in any direction. I really hoped that with Plasma 6 or 6.1 these bugs would finally be a thing of the past. But no. And working with the calendars is essential for me. I constantly have to enter, delete and correct appointments. I can't allow myself to make mistakes here.

That's why I reinstalled my computer last night so that I had a completely fresh and error-free system. Naturally with Fedora Linux and Gnome as the desktop. Everything has been working there for years with the Gnome calendar without any problems.

KDE is clearly the more visually appealing and modern design, but Gnome seems much more reliable and stable to me. With KDE, messages about program crashes kept popping up, but I don't have that with Gnome either.

found a new #journal solution

I set up #radicale on my vps because it supports the "memo/journal" feature of #caldav

now #evolution on my desktop, #korganizer on my laptop, and #jtxboard on my phone are all synced and will let me view and edit my journal entries

it's super nice

There were still problems running #kde #programs such as #konsole and #korganizer as some #qt #libraries were missing. Installing those allowed the programs to run. Also, no #audio devices were being detected and so I couldn’t play any clips, etc.

Today I found that #kwin was also lacking a library (#qtsensors) and so after that was installed and I rebooted the machine, I found that sddm was working again and so I could log in to the #kde session that I usually do.

Ein neuer Termin wiederholt sich nun über fünf Tage täglich - am dritten Tag wird allerdings pausiert. KOrganizer auf dem KDE-Desktop sowie aCalendar auf dem Android-Smartphone zeigen das korrekt an. In der Web-Oberfläche von Nextcloud wird der Termin hingegen als vom ersten bis zum lediglich vierten Tag ohne Unterbrechung während angezeigt.
Gut zu wissen, dass selbst dann, wenn die eigene Oberfläche von Nextcloud andere Informationen anzeigt, die Datenbasis im Hintergrund korrekt gespeichert und weitervermittelt wird.

What's going on here, what's being played? For a few days now, my KDE desktop has been crashing as soon as I start KOrganizer and want to synchronize. It has been working for so long without any problems.

Yes, there are those moments when you despair of Linux and other software. And even if, for example, Windows worked with Outlook without any problems, it would never be an alternative for me.
