Today I knit up the first sleeve of the tuck stitch sweater I've been planning. I should wash and measure it to make sure all my calculations were right before I go on and knit any other pieces, I know...
It does look like it will be the right size once it is washed and shrinks up a bit in the vertical direction! But I should make certain. That would be the right thing to do. *firmnod*

When I calculated the yoke I took my upper bust measurement.
By making front and back a different width and designing for the upper bust (at armpit height) I take my boobs out of the calculation for the shoulder / yoke section and then adding the necessary room later on makes for a nice fit from top to bottom.
For more fitted garments I'd decrease part of that extra width below the underbust, but here I was going for roomy and comfort.

A new #knitting pattern is available. I had planned to release it in December but ... Things happened.
Anyway - Taya Socks! A free knitting pattern.
A combo of half brioche and stockinette, 4 sizes, my favorite heel construction.
Let me know, if you like it. And if you try it: show us pictures.

Who loves a good creative flow? I had an idea for a new toy design months ago. I finally have the yarn, and will have the time to start it next week. So I sat down and wrote out the instructions for all 5 toys in the set in under 3 hours 🤩 🥳 #KnittingDesign #knitting
(Disclaimer: I will of course make adjustments as I knit, but the overall numbers all look good) -
It's #ThrowbackThursday at #FiberArtCamp and the prompt is to show our all-time favourite project! 🧶
I honestly don't know if I have a *favourite* favourite, but I sure do like the Passing Days hat. I fell in love with the yarn (ShirstyCat Just DK Superwash) as soon as I saw it, and IMO the stitch pattern really shows it off nicely. Especially those little pops of yellow.

It bugs me that I still sell most of my patterns through Etsy, when it has the highest fees and highest number of problems. I wish it was easier to redirect people to my website, or even other sites where they can find my patterns 🤦♀️ #KnittingDesign

Doing a little research on my own, I turned up some things I'm going to look into for help. I thought I would share, in case it's helpful for anyone else.

Does anyone know of a good resource for information on working with a publisher/outside company who wants to make kits with my designs? I could do an online search, but want to make sure the info is accurate and reliable.
I've done freelance work with mags before, but this feels different, and I'd like to have a better idea of what to look for in the contract.
Thanks 😊

I'm currently working on two patterns: a picnic outfit for my toys (which includes the pink dress in the photo), and an updated version of my Mama Bunny. It's taking me a while, because spring is busy with so many things, but I think it's cute so far! #knitting #KnittingToys #KnittingDesign

I got a rather rude email yesterday, from someone complaining that my knitting pattern didn't have loads of photos showing every step of making the toy. I explained that the pattern was made many years ago, when 3-4 photos was about the limit of what most people could download, and I have lots of pics elsewhere.
But I've been thinking: this is one of my most popular patterns. Maybe it's time I update it? It's so much work for an old design, tho.

Tasty, tasty thread about textures when combining just knits and purls in different ways by @gannet More please!
https://wandering.shop/@gannet/109835253426440401Things like this remind me that the idea of knitting as 1s and 0s is a false simplification. Knitting takes something 1D worked in 2D to make something in 3D. You work in discrete steps to make something continuous. Stitches pull on each other, building a complex network.
Knitting designers are wizards! -
This came up in my photo memories. The mittens were made for a friend who plays Ingress and Pokemon, so she didn't have to take her mitts off all the time. There is a flip top. Pattern my own. Yarn is handspun. She loves them so much that she put them on strings inside her coat so she doesn't lose them. #handspun #yarn #mittens #knitting #Ingress #PokemonGo #KnittingDesign #FibreArts @knitting @fibrearts

I'm getting ready to announce my mystery knit-along later today 🤩 I didn't run one last year, so I'm extra excited. It's always so fun to see what everyone knits, and what their guesses about the project are.
I've had a hard time sourcing yarn for my own version (hence the complaining about no LYS yesterday). Hopefully this isn't a big issue for anyone who wants to join in, but we can all work together on creative solutions!

Not having a LYS (local yarn shop) is really difficult when you're a knitting designer. Not only can I not browse and get inspired by something new, but I can't drop in when I need something quick or specific.
I found the perfect yarn for a new project from an online shop, only to find out they don't ship to Quebec. The colour I need is sold out in other places. It's so weird to have this problem, when living in one of the biggest Canadian cities.

Thow-back Thursday: The Silky Seal toy was originally designed to go with my mermaid doll, and published in a collection of toy patterns by Interweave in 2016. Later, I released the two patterns separately, with a few little updates. I'm still pretty happy with how the flippers are done, and used a similar method for the walrus toy. If I had time, I'd love to try knitting one in a really fluffy yarn!

I'm feeling better today, so you get a free pattern! The Walnut Shell Basket is meant as an accessory for my wee toys, with the small size working well as a holiday ornament. They're quick and so cute, I hope you have time to knit one!

Friends, I have a new holiday pattern for you, but it’s not going to ready for today as I’d hoped 😞
I got a stomach bug from somewhere, and just can’t manage all the last bits I needed to finish. It’s a sweet little accessory to go with my wee wuzzies and other small creatures, so you can at least knit those while I get better. Hopefully it will only be a day or two 😊 #KnittingDesign #KnittersOfMastodon
