Descobri que o editor de leiaute para componentes quebrou de novo no #KNIME, tanto na versão LTS quanto na versão regular (atualização a cada 6 meses).
Com a interface baseada em #Eclipse sendo depreciada, pelo menos aqui no #openSUSE Leap 16, a única saída para modificar a disposição de elementos é utilizar a interface nova da versão regular.
É um problema controlável, mas muito irritante. Para mim, que não desenho dashboards e não me preocupo muito com a ordem das configurações nas folhas de propriedades, diria que é imperceptível na maioria das vezes. O lance é que odeio software funcionando pela metade.
Tentar utilizar a funcionalidade com problemas resulta em encerramento abrupto do programa. Bem ruim.
Pela avaliação do log de erro HotSpot, tem algum problema entranhado numa chamada GTK. Com o #Distrobox apresentando alguns problemas devido ao #SELinux, namespaces e o meu esquema de particionamento com complexidade acima da média, não entendi ainda como contornar o problema.
Minha vontade, no final, é xingar o GTK, mas não sei se estaria sendo injusto. Eu costumo achar que as coisas quebram desnecessariamente. Por que não conseguimos ter software maduro e tedioso?

Hoje eu descobri que fazer um gerenciador de área de transferência para o #GNOME é um verdadeiro pesadelo de complexidade, graças à arquitetura bunda suja que a turma do Chapéu Vermelho desenhou.
O sujeito precisou explorar um desenho bipartido para fugir do motor #JavaScript single-threaded que amarra o GNOME Shell.
Sério, jogamos o ouro da computação no lixo para entregar um webtop perdulário e que não consegue nem cuidar de um Control + C, Control + V direito.
Uma pena que, para quem não normaliza precisar de um Ryzen 7 para escrever uma cartinha no Collabora no GNOME, com ambos vomitando JavaScript para todos os lados e comendo RAM e ciclos como se não houvesse amanhã, a dívida só aumenta.
Não basta precisar escrever um novo desktop por inteiro, logo mais vai ser preciso escrever o pacote de automação de escritório também. Pior, escrever num contexto em que ainda existem lacunas em vários nichos.
Nem o básico está saindo sem a ditadura do navegador e do SaaS. O básico.
(Estou sendo extra dramático, mas a situação está ruim e só se deteriora. Ah, e aqui pago pelo #SoftMaker Office e uso Google Docs + #KNIME para não ficar louco.)

Hoje em dia talvez seja papo meio fora de moda, mas quando eu discutia muito sobre migrações do #Windows para #Linux, o fantasma do #Excel com macros nojentas em VBA sempre espreitava. Depois de alguns anos trabalhando com #KNIME, eu sugiro romper com o Excel de uma vez. Se não for possível abandonar certos fluxos legados, nem vale a pena migrar. Migração para Linux não pode ser encarada como "Windows de graça" ou "Windows sem os problemas do Windows". Isso é auto-enganação e dá prejuízo depois.

Estou processando alguns dados extraídos do #Notion via #KNIME (usando snippet de código #Python que consulta "bancos de dados do Notion" via API) e não consigo ignorar o consumo de recursos. O processador Xeon de >10 anos frita para processar cerca de mil linhas. São vários minutos até conseguir chegar numa tabela utilizável. E a coisa só não fica pior porque eu rodo um ambiente leve (baseado no #FVWM) e posso dedicar 8 GB de RAM apenas para o KNIME, já que o computador tem 40 GB.

Na linha do que comentei no meu último toot, sempre fico pensando se deveria explorar produzir conteúdo sobre as ferramentas que uso no dia a dia. Eu sinceramente acho que a combinação entre #KNIME e Google #Sheets é fantástica, além disso, a possibilidade de jogar fragmentos de código em #R ou #Python (com ambientes devidamente configurados com o #Anaconda) facilita demais extração de dados.
Por exemplo, profissionalmente, eu mantenho múltiplos bancos de dados no #Notion. Consigo extrair informações deles usando código em Python no KNIME, fazer uma série de tratamentos e concluir carregando tudo no Google Sheets. Dali, o consumo é feito em planilhas com alguma dose de abstração (usando fórmulas) e, até mesmo, em um dashboard no Looker Studio.
Adicionalmente, o paradigma visual do KNIME ainda facilita documentar os processos, facilita a utilização por não-programadores e permite introduzir abstrações nas caixas de diálogo dos componentes, eliminando a necessidade de modificação dos fluxos de trabalho construídos.
Enfim, tudo muito sofisticado e a custo baixo (a maioria dos mortais pagaria apenas pelo Notion, o que significaria desembolsar cerca de 50 reais por mês).
