CHARGED: Neath Abbey man charged over Neath town centre stabbing
Police confirm a man has been charged after Friday night’s Neath town centre stabbing.
South Wales Police say they have charged Connor McCarthy, 30, from Neath Abbey, with Section 18 wounding with intent and possession of a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place.
This is one of the most serious assault charges in the law of England and Wales, just below attempted murder. It means the accused is alleged to have wounded someone while intending to cause them really serious harm.
“With intent” means prosecutors say the attack was a deliberate attempt to cause really serious harm, rather than an accident or a reckless scuffle.
McCarthy is due to appear at Swansea Crown Court on Friday 6 November.
He was arrested in Gloucestershire on Sunday night following a weekend manhunt.
A 30-year-old man from Sandfields received medical treatment after the incident and has since been discharged from hospital.
Police said at the time that the two men were not known to each other.
