Made some protest stickers today! I skipped the lamination, to make them as affordable as possible. They’re very water resistant, but not very abrasion resistant! Better for sticking on stationary objects rather than water bottles or phone cases and the like.

Working on some small paintings for the weekend today, so #ArtAdventCalendar Day 19 is also my reminder to you (local Fairbanks #Alaska friends!) that I will be at Pioneer Park tomorrow 3p–7p for Northern Lights Winter Market #2, and then at Wedgwood Resort next to the Borealis Ballroom for the Procrastinators’ Bazaar on Sunday (11a–5p)!

I probably used this card in last year’s #ArtAdventCalendar, but I’m gonna go ahead and use it again for Day 18 this year, because we seem even further away from #PeaceOnEarth than we were a year ago. Also because it’s my mother’s birthday, and she once carved a very similar dove block decades before I carved this one.

For #ArtAdventCalendar Day 17: My Hoarfrost series of ~8” paintings of various extravagantly colorful skies, with skeletal unpainted branches of bare trees & shrubs in the foreground.
Further proving my belief that I have no idea what people like, my two least favorites already sold, but the one in the middle has been hanging (unsold) in a lovely new champagne gold frame in Bear Gallery’s Limited Edition show for over a month now! 😂

Day 11 of #ArtAdventCalendar 2024, I present very large #watercolor #poppies. They need a custom frame, which I haven’t wrangled together yet.
I’m particularly tickled with how the orange #poppy turned out. I need to paint more poppies more like *that* (but maybe on standard size paper 😅).

Please accept this little birb, who is the product of trying to paint a #raven shape with as few brush strokes as possible, followed by adding details by lifting the paint off the highlights.
I think that technique warrants further study! 🤔

I painted this for The Northern Alaska Environmental Center’s Earth Day event this year, and it went to its new home later in the summer.
I miss it, it was huge and I liked looking at it hanging on my wall. 😅

Was not as happy with yesterdays chanterelle attempts. :blobfoxlaughsweat: Chanterelles are basically small masterclasses in gradients, and so far all went like “ohh this is going to be perfect… *adds one more glaze layer* …aaand it’s ruined.”

Working on some little (around 2x3") #mushroom studies, for the upcoming Fairbanks Fungi Festival.
My goal is to get decent at enough varieties of local #EdibleMushrooms to paint a panorama of them all & do some limited ed. prints for the event (as well as end up with a bunch of little guys to sell).
(And yes, I know #AmanitaMuscaria aren’t really considered edible, but can’t have a booth of #MushroomArt without them? 🍄 :blobcatcoffee:)

OK, fuzzy #poppies take two… Fuzz done in D.S. buff titanium with just a touch of paynes gray. I like this much better than doing the fuzz in green…

So, again I find myself with poppies that give me mixed feelings.
My GAWD I just LOVE the blossoms here… but why oh WHY did I decide to ✨try something new✨ on the stems after I had blossoms I liked so much?!
See, poppy stems are hairy, so I wanted to try that. But I don’t think I captured “hairy” here. :artcapy3: (edit: early consensus disagrees, maybe it just needs practice?)

Finished this piece, and not a moment too soon. Did a couple final touch ups & framed it this morning, dropped it off at the gallery early this afternoon. 😅
I really had no idea where this was going when I painted the initial gradient (which I did to comparison test some cotton papers), but I'm happy with where it ended up...

Finally worked up the nerve to pour some epoxy, only to have it go all weird as it cured. 😅😫 For a brief shining few hours though, it felt like sweet, sweet victory…Luckily I caught the lumpy curing issue while it was still gummy, and excavated almost all of the epoxy without damaging the painting. Will try again tomorrow!

I don’t know what my issue is, but like 99% of the watercolors I’ve done lately had zero pencil sketch, and next to zero planning, even though I have noted that the ones I plan more tend to turn out better. :blobfoxthinking:
