This ad was a quiz question answer on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me this morning on NPR. I had forgotten all about it, but immediately remembered it when it was called out in the list of possible answers. Had to watch it a couple more times after 13+ years. It still makes me chuckle and admire the hell out of whoever pushed the limits with this ad:

Here's one for the caffeine connoisseurs who insist you need to re-mortgage the house for a decent espresso.
Kmart's $79 espresso machine just topped a CHOICE blind taste test, outscoring a $4,349 Breville that costs 55 times more. The $4,349 machine scored 50%. The $79 one scored 75%. Turns out the coffee doesn't know what the machine cost. Who knew "premium" was mostly a vibe and a brochure?

I have an almost irrational hatred of the new "AI" exit gates at the self-serve of supermarkets. Almost as much as I detest the self-checkouts themselves. But the #KMart near here has put them on the *entrance*.

I used that format at Kmart for a non-photography project - I was restoring an old dial gauge, and was stuck on how to restore the face.
Then I thought I could make an image and print it at Kmart. That would be far better than anything I could do by hand, or print at home.
Worked really well, and like you said, amazingly cheap!

The prints order I put in with my LOCAL Kmart here in #Adelaide back on Sunday 2nd Nov which they screwed up & instead printed over the other side of the country in Melbourne and for some bizarre reason gave to Aramex to courier here on a whirlwind tour of Australia,.. got an email this morning (11th Nov) saying it'll be delivered today.. Yup, you guessed it, waited all day long, currently 6pm, no-show...
