  1. 🧵1/ It's only dark and grey here. Time for some #bloomscrolling and a #coloursplash. In France, such #flowers were made in the 19th century (until plastic times) for grave wreaths and religious art, the #klosterarbeiten. We had two different #perlage techniques depending on the region. These are reconstructions. People knowing the techniques become rare.

  2. "Du pain, du vin et du boursin" - #artInProcess #artInProgress One of my #BiodiversityShrines -- here a try about #FoodSecurity not yet finished. (The French publicity was the first in television in 1968, changing the way of manipulation and consumerism completely.) #embroidery #PoliticalStitching #Activism #assemblage #ArtActivism #crops #wheat #grain #Klosterarbeiten #biodiversityLoss #craftivism

  3. Today, I finished a new one of my #BiodiversityShrines feat. Jordanita subsolana, a #butterfly now extinct in our region. My #shrines are a mixture of #paperArt #nature, elements of #culturalHeritage materials and "civilisation" #waste, like the 8 cm wide cheese box and the precious #plastic-cement-waste. My inspirations come from #klosterarbeiten, #reliquaries #naturalHistory #museums and my brain.

  4. My work today on the #BiodiversityShrines was mainly the old technique of #perlage = #beading. On social media it's often called #FrenchBeading, but in France, we don't say that. Differences in beading technique are less national than temporal. Victorian techniques, f. e., differed from those of the Renaissance. Perlage was traditionally used for costumes, headdresses or so-called #klosterarbeiten like #reliquaries. Here's the start: mastodon.online/@NatureMC/1108 #assemblage #ArtistsOfMastodon #shrine

  5. 1/2 #LostSpecies vanish like a #cigarette. This was my first connotation when I discovered some #vintage cigarette boxes for my #BiodiversityShrines. Inspired by ancient #klosterarbeiten, they contain fantasy species, precious materials like #perlage and "civilisation" #waste. The realistic #PaperArt #butterfly sits on #wire found in a flowerless meadow. #BiodiversityLoss My #shrines are a project for an exhibition in October. #mixedmedia #ArtInABox #assemblageArt #artActivism #embroidery

  6. Working on my #BiodiversityShrines showing endangered or extinct regional species. They are inspired by ancient #klosterarbeiten and #reliquaries. I looked for a way to confront people with #biodiversityLoss in #beauty, far away from #disaster reports or pedagogical warnings. #Art has the power to excite questions and talks! #ArtInProgress All #shrines are #upcycled of #packaging #waste. One part of the #butterfly will be hidden. #JordanitaSubsolana #endangeredSpecies #Alsace #PaperArt

  7. If you are interested in this work: My #BiodiversityShrines are an art project about #BiodiversityLoss, formally inspired by ancient #klosterarbeiten and traditional #crafts like #perlage. The project lives from the contrasts between packaging waste and precious objects. Some photos: mastodon.online/@NatureMC/1099

  8. On Mastodon and my #blog, I showed you #embroidered treasures from a special exhibition in our #museum and #culturalHeritage centre: cronenburg.net/treasures/
    At the moment when the #exhibition was being cleared away, I was still able to take a few photos. (For more photos look at my blog). #embroidery #bonnets #caps #costumes #Alsace #goldwork #canetille #sequins #beads #glassbeads #rocailles #lacemaking #lace #Klosterarbeiten #TextileArt
