The global rich -- the #Kleptocrats like #Trump and #Kushner -- view Mediterranean beach front land in #Gaza with greedy eyes, but they want it cleared of ordinary people so that they can make a playground for themselves. No one wants the #Palestinian people; the few countries -- #Lebanon, perhaps, and #Syria -- have more than enough troubles of their own already. Europe will talk nice words but do nothing.

If you cannot #redistribute enough wealth from the #kleptocrats to the mass, you destroy social cohesion and the wellbeing of everyone -- including the kleptocrats.

Exactly this. One billionaire with his private jet, his superyacht, and his datacentre (and yes, I do mean 'his', these kleptocrats are overwhelmingly male) can undo all the good that the privations of a million honest concerned citizens could do.
No, I haven't flown since 2009. Yes, I've given up my car. Yes, I'm off grid. Although these things may make me feel good, they won't save a world where the #kleptocrats have free reign.

In the Franco-Prussian war, the Paris Commune happened. At the end of the first world war, Russia had a #communist revolution, while the German navy mutinied in an explicitly left wing revolt. After the second, #communism was popular around the world, and the UK elected its most #socialist ever government.
War is not something the #Kleptocrats should wish for.

This is a really good analysis of how #Labour became a right wing party.
I was aware of their courting of rich donors, but I'd missed the revolving door between Labour governments and the defence and private healthcare industries, and the point about Labour directing anger towards immigrants in order to divert it from the #kleptocrats I'd completely missed.

@jonesmurphy @Remittancegirl They don't vote for the media. Even the Daily Mail only averages half a million copies. GB News is 'more popular' than the BBC or Sky but still gets only 147,500 viewers for its top programme.
There is marginal public appetite for ant of this media. We get not what the public wants, but what the #Kleptocrats think it in their interests to pay to provide.

@yogthos so long as the rich are able to make larger political donations than the poor, the rich will continue to own all those political parties which have enough funds to effectively contest elections.
This is how 'liberal democracy' is supposed to work — the political parties feircely contest with one another over issues which don't affect the #kleptocrats, but maintain careful unanimity in opposing anything which could undermine the #billionaires' power.

@socketwench it has not hit a limit in overpaying the #kleptocrats. There is no such limit. When the population that serves them and that they depend on has all starved to death, they will still contend with each other in who can steal the most in the toxic wasteland that is left.
They will suffer, then, of course, but that does not help us; because we shall have starved then and they cannot imagine this outcome now — and wouldn't change their behaviour even if they could.

@Shivviness the thing is, 10°C is not even remotely survivable, even for the ultra-rich in their bunkers. I know a lot of them are really stupid and living in fantasy worlds, but they cannot all be. And no one wants to live all their lives, and their children, and their grandchildren, in Vault 33.

@adrianww Well, it is. But unless we create a social movement which says 'this system is not acceptable and must be radically changed', then nothing will change. And though I'm not arguing that Harris would have been 'as bad as' Trump, I am arguing that it would not have been better in any significant way. The same #kleptocrats fund and control both parties, and will see their agendas implemented.
We MUST get dark money out of politics altogether, and ALL political donations are corrupt.

@ChrisMayLA6 our "media platforms" are (almost) all owned by #billionaire #kleptocrats. The billionaires have a strong interest in seeing right wing governments established, to protect and enhance their wealth.
There's no mystery here.
The solution is to use those few media platforms which are open, transparent, and community owned.

They will always outspend us and buy our politicians, until the receipt of any political donation is a criminal offence with mandatory exclusion from public life as a penalty.

They don't just own #Trump. They own #Biden and #Harris and #Starmer and #Farage and #Polievre and #Macron and...
And that's the challenge we face. You cannot have a #Democracy in which a rich voter has more influence with the politicians than a poor voter, so we cannot allow **any** political donations **at all**.
