A few dozen fellow patriots in our little berg. Pretty good turnout considering this was organized just this week. The positive honks of support way outnumbered middle fingers which was nice considering this part of the county runs a little trumpy. On the strong recommendation of the Kitsap Audubon Conservation Committee, the Kitsap Audubon Society Board voted unanimously to endorse vote No on 2117 Campaign. The intentionally misleading Initiative -2117 would repeal the Climate Commitment Act (CCA), one of the strongest conservation acts in the country, protecting our air, water, forests, farmlands, jobs, and transportation.
Weather conditions caused by climate change disrupt bird migration patterns, threaten nesting and wintering grounds, and push species toward extinction. Audubon’s research has demonstrated the climate threats to Washington’s iconic birds from the Common Goldeneye along our coasts to the Mountain Bluebird of Eastern Washington. Their future is directly linked to a stable climate. The CCA offers a chance to do our part to reverse this trend and bend the bird curve towards survival and resilience.
