BATTLE ROYALE - Kinji Fukasaku (2000) ★★⭑
---
Ce qui commence en étant captivant devient vite d'une lourdeur hystérique avec un scénario finalement assez vide et une psychologie adolescente qui ne vole pas très haut. Souffre de ruptures de rythme. OST héroïque et sympa.

Tetsuya Watari (and many familiar faces) stars in this gritty, cops ‘n yakuza Fukasaku classic! Matched with an elegant and punchy omachi sake from one of my favourite breweries - soft pepper and acidity, cream, and marzipan… 😋

🆕💭Review: Battles Without Honor and Humanity [2] – Deadly Fight in Hiroshima (1973)

All about the second episode, and the dark obsessions that send yakuza hitman Yamanaka & his nemesis Katsutoshi on path to self-destruction.

Shame on me that I haven’t watched more Japanese #movies this #Japanuary. I just finished the 1968 #BlackLizard by #KinjiFukasaku. His direction is (willingly or unwillingly) a little incoherent, but drag-performer #AkihiroMiwa’s lavish and gender-fluid performance as the eponymous antagonist Black Lizard is a delight.
