Coming up on 22 years playing this game. Not so much anymore, but I still check in on it and wave to the clannies.

i have decided to log back into #KingdomOfLoathing for the first time in over a year and oh my god i’ve forgotten everything

My wife is out at a #KingdomOfLoathing meet-up, so I guess I am taking on the duty of morning #cat lap.

Doing a hardcore challenge path didn't take me longer than some of my hardcore standard runs. Probably more a sign of how bad I am at the standard game than of any skills I have in the challenge path. That first 8-day run was because I forgot about the Daily Dungeon. #KingdomOfLoathing

Obligatory new #introduction post for the new server with hashtags, etc. So, #EdTech job by day, interests: #Books (mainly #mystery, but also #SF, #lit, #horror and nonfic which seems pointless to hash). Also into #Boardgames and pro #wrestling (#AEW), plus tons of assorted TV and music. My main computer game is #KingdomOfLoathing. Also a #LearnedLeague player. Lives in #Waltham. Jewish, agnostic, etc. Politics are to the left. Far to the left. He/him/his pronouns

Not sure how many other #KingdomOfLoathing players on on Mastodon, but I do want to brag about FINALLY beating Snake-Eyes Glen. Frankly, the Telegraph content is the hardest ITOM-related stuff I can recall.

It's weird, I didn't think of it as speedrunning then. It's more because the game had an ingame adventure system that you'd basically minmax you way to save as many turns as possible ...#kingdomofloathing

I have acquired Shadows Over Loathing, the new game from the makers of West of Loathing, and Kingdom of Loathing.
I may be some time.

What's that thing called in wide-open #videogames where first you have to complete some minor task before you're allowed out in the open? Some dated examples:
#KingdomOfLoathing required proof of spelling before you could chat with other players.
#WindWaker requires a series of tasks culminating with a sail before you can see the sea.
#Ultima7 required solving a minor murder mystery before being let out of the first town and into the world.
It's not just a tutorial, there's a name for this.

Those two methods are related to the F2P game trend of trying to trick you into paying money to keep playing.
#KingdomofLoathing also has a cash shop but it's almost entirely permanent gear or vanity items and is (was?) generally aimed for collector's instincts instead of "pay us to get more out of the game".

KoL is #KingdomofLoathing, FYI.
You get an automatic refresh of X "turns" a day, and all exploration (and some other things) takes a turn (or sometimes two or three).
You also get hungry over time. Different food items give you different stat bonuses and buffs and also different quantities of additional turns.
So, essentially, the amount you can play per day depends on the amount of effort and time and strategy you put into playing per day.
