  1. On this day in 1959 Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" was released which is regarded by many critics as jazz's greatest record, Davis's masterpiece, and one of the best albums of all time. Its influence on music, including jazz, rock, and classical genres, has led writers to also deem it one of the most influential albums ever recorded.

  2. I grew up in a #jazz home, and so did my son. To this day, my son and I still get a thrill spinning #KindOfBlue, #TimeOut, #GiantSteps, #MingusAhUm, and other vinyls.

Would the #Swifties still be listening to those songs, when they come of age? Will they introduce this music to their children and grandchildren? Will this music stand up to the Grind of Time—like Time Out—or will it time out?

  4. Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue still feels less like a record and more like an atmosphere.

Spent time this week with an original Columbia six-eye stereo pressing paired with Pinot Noir and a quiet room.

  8. Chum reminded me that on this day, March 2nd, back in 1959, Miles Davis and Co started their first recording session for what would become Kind of Blue. One of my all-time favourite jazz albums, hell, one of my all-time favourite albums of any type.

Among the other musicians involved were the equally legendary John Coltrane and the brilliant Bill Evans. Blue gold...

  9. #NowSpinning #KindOfBlue by #MilesDavis. One of the great albums of all time (obviously) & the perfect soundtrack as I #write.

This is the #UHQR cut at 33 - & it sounds so so good - save a pressing defect across 30secs of Blue in Green.

  11. Miles Davis’ ‘Kind of Blue’ is, at 65, a shape-shifting album that transcends time and genre

"Miles’ playing had the quality of a human voice whispering to you."

"It is an album on which nuance, beauty & impeccably calibrated group improvisations trump the high-octane virtuosity & velocity that came to the fore with the bebop revolution that dominated jazz from the early 1940s to at least the mid-1950s."
