Dev diary — Vienna 1814, iteration 3.6.
Sometimes the best design decision is deleting something you love. I had an elegant system where each evening had a dominant 'tone' that rewired its synergies. Lovely in theory; at the table it kept getting lost in an already dense evening.
So I cut the rule — but kept what it did. The synergies stayed; they now come from direct matches instead of an atmospheric layer. Less elegant, far more teachable.

got a code snippet that I'm pretty proud of. it describes some complex steps and every time I read it I understand it immediately...
but it's no longer needed. #KillYourDarlings

Sechs Minuten für ein Radiofeature. Klingt nach richtig viel Zeit. Aber um ausgeruht eine Geschichte zu erzählen, ist es dann doch zu wenig 😩 Für mich zumindest ... ich kürz dann mal. #KillYourDarlings #Textgemetzel

I have been running a social media account of an organisation in the last years and remember how I felt that I had to post a lot back when the organisation was still on twitter. How AI was such a relieve when I didnt have to think anymore to produce tiny useless posts to shoot into this void.
So good twitter is dead (at least for me).

Today I removed one of the earliest actions from Thousand Hell’s tactical narrative game, intended to be a tradeoff. In practice it was too hard to visualize the cost. Pretty sure it was in the very first prototype… #KillYourDarlings

Just re-edited and expanded the chapter where I kill off one of my favorite characters in Mars Needed Women. It brings tears to my eyes. Maybe it WAS the right thing to do.
But.
It hurts.

#gaming #rollspel #KillYourDarlings

A mining outpost inside a shattered planet which then gets destroyed.
Two complicated set pieces from the game (the broken planet and the exploding station) but I think unfortunately they distract a bit from each other. I have to move on but one of those times where final result is less than sum of the parts to me.

Creative, sometimes, you have to kill your darlings.

I'm not going to lie. It was structurally necessary. But that was a brutal edit. 😭 Onward.

Just followed the #Caturday hashtag and found someone posting about just having finished the #SookieStackhouse books by #CharlaineHarris (which were adapted to TV as #trueblood
It reminded me of how obsessed I got with that series. It seems like a thousand years ago but it was in about 2010
I wrote an essay for #KillYourDarlings at the time about binge-reading vs binge-watching, and what happens when an ongoing series of novels diverges from the TV series that was adapted from them
I also mention #Dexter here, but which other shows have forked from their source material, while both are being created at the same time?
Does #GameOfThrones even count?

"There are well-documented problems operating long weather time series in #Antarctica, (Genthon et al., 2011) and records are spatially inhomogeneous (Yang et al., 2023).
Nevertheless, Jones et al. (2019) show, after removing the effect of SAM variability, a statistically significant background warming in all extra tropical Southern Hemisphere temperature records, including over the Antarctic continent in the 60 years after the International Geophysical year, 1957. A good rule of thumb in #writing or in #graphicdesign, if an element is confusing to your audience, drop it entirely. #KillYourDarlings

Having to get really brutal and cut whole paragraphs as I try to keep my thesis under the max wordcount. Enjoy this tangential contextual framing / historicizing of bloomers in Ulysses that I loved but couldn't justify saving. #amediting #killyourdarlings

Putting together an In Memoriam reel honoring all the darlings I killed while writing news articles this year because I didn’t have space on the page for them. “Personal aside that was poignant but barely related to the story at hand,” we hardly knew thee. #Journalism #reporting #KillYourDarlings #ShopTalk #news #satire

@darrenoneill cool. So a 10 piece limit per artist might work?
Ya'll have to use your karma you know.
