Quick question for you Kill Team enthusiasts. My son just started playing with Spectre Squad, and I need a team too.
I like orks, so I'm wondering if "The Wrecka Krew" would be a good choice for a beginner.
Are they fun and forgiving to start with?
We're both total newbies. 😅🙏

Another attempt to onboard a group of new players onto #Warhammer40k with predictably mixed results.
In some respects you have to hand it to Games Workshop. It was hard to onboard people onto the game in 2008 and it remains hard to do in 2026. Some rules have been simplified but the first 2-3 games for a new player are just brutally boring.
I know I’ve said it before but it makes me so mad that #killteam isn’t a stripped down fast version of 40K but is instead a different game with very few transferable mechanics.
What I want is to be able to tell people to buy Killteam, have them learn the mechanics there during fast 15-20 minute matches, practice in a low cost environment with low stakes and then graduate up to a 40K game. Instead I have people try Killteam, learn it, then try 40K and realize “oh this is a totally different way harder thing” and give up.

In the interests of getting some things to good-enough and moving on, I got some highlights added to the armour; did a simple basing scheme and am calling theee tabletop ready. I went back and re-did the captain’s base to match the others too. Might add some grass but these can be done for now.
I’d lost the assault intercessor when I started so he’s missing, but I’ve found it now so that can go back on the backlog.

I was Ultramarines and I got slaughtered. The Psychophage is totally a monster. 🤣

The miniatures will be painted and I recreated the scene from last night. 😈
Last night, my son attacked my Ravener Prime. Astartes can do two shoot actions if they have the AP and he did.
Unfortunately, he did not kill the Prime and the Prime had a counteract move. He was within 3 inches and the shoot action has a 3 inch range. I one shot him down to 1 wound point.
He was not happy when I won the initiative roll. His leader was so dead right after. #KillTeam #WarhammerCommunity

On the whole very much like the system - feels pacey, interesting, and competitive in a way that feels narrative and fun. Reminds me positively of Kill Team, but the mental load is more manageable than #KillTeam is starting to be. Only complaint is, like a lot of GW games just now, there’s a bit of ‘gotcha’ cards and actions - lots of interrupting turns etc etc - but having been all up and in it with KT for so long - this one just about pulls it back from the brink and is mild by comparison.
