Day 11 A drama that kept you riveted in 2024#KillMeLoveMe - I literally couldn't sleep properly because of it. It's an intense show purely because of the great acting of the leads, especially Liu Xueyi.
I suppose it also helps that he looks like this 🤣

Since I want to use "xiao guan" as much as possible I'm chosing between "Kill Me Love Me" and "Legend of Awakening" for my next drama. It's a tough one! KMLM is definitely good, but LoA looks goofier. Hm, I'll try LoA tonight. If I don't like it I _know_ I have a good drama to switch to - that's not the case if I try it the other way around.

That moment when you have to decide what #CDrama to watch next lol. Fortunately Brocade Odyssey is starting today. People don't seem very enthusiastic about it on Weibo, but I have to remember it doesn't matter to me. If the story is good, I will love it. Just hope that it's not an angst fest. Finally completed this monster of a #KillMeLoveMe review. It is, to date, the longest drama analysis I've written (9k words!). KMLM is a very polarising drama. Reviewers like AvenueX outright said "don't bother" with it; many were angry Murong Jinghe wasn't as dark and toxic as his novel counterpart. But those of us who love it, love it to bits ... well except for massive parts of the script. So you can say that I have very complex feelings about it. ;D

After #KillMeLoveMe I feel like I can't really watch anything with acting (and gorgeous men lol) that is not of the same high quality.
Which includes almost every #Cdrama out there right now 🤣
I tried to transition to a #Kdrama but it felt jarring.
I guess my mind wants PAIN AND AND ANGST
Fortunately Snowy Night 七夜雪 fits the bill and I seem to like it, so that's something!

Just finished “Kill Me Love Me” 🌸 This is such a good drama! The ending was delicately done with sweetness + sadness interwoven in a way that resonates. The standout performance is Liu Xueyi, who gives his character depth and humility but so many of the other actors had roles that allowed them to give nuance to both their roles + the drama.
Can definitely recommend!

Am just watching episode 29 of “Kill Me Love Me” 🌸 The side couples are really good in this drama. It is so unexpected that this couple with a big age gap and an arranged marriage would end up in love. This scene was so sad, precisely because it was unexpected both in their love and in the outcome.
The side couples complement the main love triangle well.

Am watching episode 28 of “Kill Me Love Me” 🌸 This episode showcases Liu Xueyi’s acting skills, because he is clearly heart-broken. Murong Jinghe clearly can’t let go of Mei Lin and his people give him space to mourn even though he is not entirely mentally stable at the moment.

Am watching episode 27 of “Kill Me Love Me” 🌸 This scene is so sweet. Yue Qin practising what he wants to say to Mei Lin. He proves his love by giving her the freedom to choose rather than imposing his will on her.
Murong Jinghe has also let her go when she goes with Yue Qin. He even carries her on his back to the ceremony that would take her away from him.
It is rare in Cdramas that women are given such agency. Indeed it is rare in real life, too…

Am watching episode 24 of “Kill Me Love Me” 🌸 The side couples are very good in this drama. Did not see love blossoming in this arranged marriage with such a big age gap. It actually feels real and not predatory. Jiang Kai’s acting is what makes the difference. A less skilled actor would have made the relationship icky…

I admit that I have given in to the demands of my hormones with #KillMeLoveMe. I mean I thought Liu Xue Yi was already peak gorgeousness in #InBlossom but this is, to quote a Weibo influencer, beauty at a "bullying level". 🤣

Just watching episode 23 of “Kill Me Love Me” 🌸 This prison wedding is so well done. The villain is shown grace and allowed to be a round character. The title of the show also makes sense for this second couple.

Just watching episode 22 of “Kill Me Love Me” with Liu Xueyi and Wu Jinyan 🌸 Murong Jinghe has just put on a masquerade to lie to the love of his life in order to keep her safe. The sad irony is that he uses the truth to lie to her. The complex emotions are written all over Liu Xueyi’s face.

After #KillMeLoveMe everything pales in comparison 😅. #TheRiseOfNing - I am just watching out of habit & completion. I just run it in the background while I work. There's just very little logic to the plot and man, that Luo family, talk about terrible luck in choosing wives .... 🤣 And the way everyone just gets over shocking revelation after revelation... Total dog blood plot, yet I find myself dozing off from boredom 😴

No doubt about it, #KillMeLoveMe is a flawed drama. But when you view the drama through a Chinese spiritual worldview, the ending becomes profound and deeply moving. I hope that somehow I'd be able to help more Western audiences understand why some Chinese viewers thought this way about the ending.

Episodes 16-18 were my favourites for #KillMeLoveMe. Many say it's just filler but to me it's essential character building to push our characters to next level. It's also very healing.
PS: I've published my thoughts up to the end of the drama. I'm currently writing a final review. My Kill Me Love Me "review" is a giant, probably the most detailed drama post I've written.
