  1. #Euraknot's really interesting talk w/ #PietroShakarian about his book #AnastasMikoyan: An Armenian Reformer in #Khrushchev's Kremlin.

"How did he push for #destalinization after the leader’s death in 1953, particularly on #SovietNationalityPolicy? Shakarian tells us that in the end, #Mikoyan was more than a survivor. He was a critical player in shaping the post-Stalinist #SovietUnion."

  2. "Earlier on X, [Ayatollah Ali] Khamenei said ..."

Normally I relish a bit of irony, but this is just painful.

But also, how can a country go for the #IronCurtain version of #DigitalSovereignty and not have the technical and political competence to #SelfHost a blog in order to make press releases? Can you imagine #Khrushchev or #Brezhnev using a US platform to make statements?

  3. As an observant listener of Mykhailo #Sheitelman's live podcast has pointed out, Trump administration, or at least Trump's envoy to #Russia #SteveWitkoff, has indirectly claimed that #Kursk is #Ukraine: in his interview to Tucker Carlson, Witkoff claimed that #Khrushchev, who was born in Kursk oblast, was Ukrainian.

The ignorant idiot tried to claim that Khrushchev gave Russian lands to Ukraine, and instead admitted that even some lands Russia kept to itself after WW1 were ethnically Ukrainian.

  4. #Witkoff's #lies to the #American audience:

    1. The #occupied regions are actually #Russian
    2. The #referendums were #independent
    3. #Russia controls all 5 regions
    4. #Ukraine is an artificial patchwork created by #Khrushchev
    5. #Putin has no intentions to claim other #Ukrainian regions
    6. Ukrainian troops are encircled near #Kursk
    7. Putin is #Trump’s friend
    8. Putin wants #peace

Please stop these lies when you encounter them.

Turns out people of #Russia did not like capitalism as they spent the rest of the 90s impoverished as the oligarchs robbed them by buying up the nation for kopecks on the ruble. #Putin pulled them out of poverty which is why so many are blindly loyal to him. #Stalin was already seen as a bad guy during destalinization under #Khrushchev. While after enough time he finally helped win WWII, he refused to fight Hitler at first and locked himself away believing Hitler would never break their pact and it took the local peoples to fight them for several months before he did anything finally. Stalin locked up 3% of the nations population, the only nation to beat that level of prison population is the US with .7% of its population in prison roughly 5 to 10 years ago at its peak, North Korea might be higher be we have no real data on the nation. Around 1991, the top 3 nations with highest % in prison we the US, South Africa and the soviet union in 3rd. Prior to Nixon the soviet union have roughly the same percentage they had in 91, but we had half or less the prisoners they did. We did have lynchings though.Oddly enough it was Putin that has given him a rehab. #ussr
  6. 1960. Somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. One for the history buffs. Hungarian leader János Kádár playing shuffleboard on the Soviet passenger liner Balitka on his way to the US for the XVth session of the UN General Assembly. That's Nikta Khrushchev on the right, and possibly, Alexei Kosygin of the left.

  7. 'He told me that there were now two options. The first was that Mr. #Putin would be replaced somehow, and that a period of reform would start, as under #Khrushchev after #Stalin .

“The second option, which is more realistic, is that the regime stays in place and #Russia will be slowly dying,” Mr. Orlov said. “It will fall behind other countries, and to make this regime stable, the level of repression will rise.”

  8. Just started watching a movie called, "The Courier."

Starts with a speech from #Khrushchev talking about the horrible imperialists in the West. #USSR is of course amazing in the speech.

Same narrative as the BS we're hearing now from Pisspot #Putin. Do these people ever get tired of all of the lies? Russian gov. makes my head hurt.

My brain can't dumb itself down enough for that mentality. No wonder #Trump wishes he were Russian.
