Love these unusual product juxtapositions. Here's one from Kep, Cambodia: "Clean Moto, Cut Hair".

    The photo is c.2011.

  11. An early morning bike to West Baray and the very ancient khmer temple Ak Yum.

Situated on the south bank dike, you look down on this pre-khmer empire temple. Considered the oldest surviving temple mountain in Southeast Asia.

A truly unique feature is a well from the top of the temple leading to an underground cellar.

Some speculates that Ak Yum was part of the last capital city before the Khmer Empire.

  21. I've put the story of the cover from the book in the alt text of the first photo.

The big 'lost in translation' moment was concerning the first pencil sketch where I wanted to convey that the hand should be holding a paintbrush, not a pencil.

My poor Khmer didn't get this across correctly and Sai Sokheang replied saying that this was just a pencil sketch and that the final piece would be painted.

This pencil-paint impasse continued until we somehow broke through it, resulting in the later colour sketch that did indeed have a paintbrush in the hand.

I was then expecting a third sketch in response to my feedback, but one day I happened to look in to find him working on the final piece.

  26. Colourful food in the making

Along the small inlets and between the rice fields along Siem Reap river down to Phnom Krom and the Tonle Sap lake, some local restaurateurs build these small huts on stilts in the background.

A family or travel party can order food and drinks, and relax in the shadow of the hut with a view to this tranquil landscape.

And the food and drinks are locally sourced and of high quality. With choices.
