Mask discomfort and ignorance are no excuse. 6 years now. #COVID affects everyone. Best finds: Moldex Airwave 4800 #N95 which has excellent #Breathability (I'm a severe asthmatic) and my kid loves the black Bluna #KF94 with adjustable ear straps, he adds a nose foam stickers. U with us, u mask too.

These masks my son and I wear... They are not a ritual, not a metaphor, it is a fucking filter that doesn't filter out f-bombs, it helps filter out airborne viruses, it is called an #N95 or #kn95 or #kf94 or #FFP2 #respirator. I often call it a #respiratormask different than #SurgicalMask or #DustMask or #MedicalMask or Halloween mask or African mask or fucking ski mask in ability function and purpose. Just had to fucking clarify that somewhere.

So, the other day I noticed a strap on my Honeywell RU6500 #FullFaceElastomeric had broken… this is one I was keeping around for parts, so not a big issue… but the thought of the same fate meeting my current one worried me a bit.

Looked around, found a new Sundström SR200 going for a bargain price (AU$250… normally they are >$550)… beauty. It's on its way south from Mt. Isa.

Today I ordered some filters (from a local supplier here in Brisbane), mainly some #P3 filters (my main concern is #bushfire smoke and #COVID19)… I happened to notice this little chart for the SR-510 particular filters.

Classes:
- P1: 80% | up to 20% leakage | Protect against Dry and Wet particles _except_ aerosols, carcinogens, radioactive particles, bacteria, *viruses*, spores or biochemicals such as enzymes or hormones
- P2: 94% | up to 6% leakage | Protect against Dry and Wet particles _except_ *viruses*, spores or biochemicals such as enzymes or hormones
- P3: 99.95% | <0.05% leakage | Protect against Dry and wet particles (all types)

It was the exceptions for "viruses" in the #P2 and #P1 filters that surprised me. I thought #P2 was more or less equivalent to #N95 and #KF94. (P3 being equivalent to #N100) I hear people singing the praises of N95s with regards to COVID-19, and definitely it beats many common alternatives, but this has me scratching my head.

The SR-510 is a P3 filter, so no biggie… but I thought P2s were up to the task.

@entwininglife If you live near any of the many current wildfires (including here in New York), an #N95 or other high-efficiency #respirator can also preserve your lung health. Commonly available ones are #KF94, #FFP2 or #FFP3, and #KN95.

At school pick-up today, I had one of my #Stormtrooper #KF94 on. A little kid on a scooter, about three years old and sporting a #Transformers shirt, stopped me and said, “Excuse me! I like your mask!”

“Thank you”, I replied, “I like your shirt”.

@jor Very true! If you're going to wear a mask, wear a mask that works, a respirator mask that is made to filter small aerosols: #n95 #FFP2 #kn95 #kf94 or better. NOT just a baggy blue surgical mask-- those are meant for droplets. #Covid Airborne. Surgical, cloth, or dust masks do not have the ability to offer adequate protection from Covid, TB, Smoke, and other aerosols. There is no shortage of respirator masks to choose from. Keep looking, Find your Cinderella slipper. #RespiratorMask

1) Respokare fold-flat
2) 3M VFlex
3) 3M Aura

If I’m doing something quick with (imo) lower risk of exposure, such as going through a drive thru or accepting a delivery at the front door, I don KF-94 LG Airwashers.

Just in time for school. The rather good Eight Sugar #KF94 mask for children is down to $26.56 for a box of 100. After trying several different models, this is the one my 10yo daughter has been wearing for the last year. It's a legit South Korean brand and a comfortable fit for smaller faces. #Parenting #Masking #Mask

I did a Target curbside pickup and saw 2 employees masked, YAY! But one was surgical and one was cloth, and I'm not trying to be picky but if your gna wear one, wear one that actually protects you from these variants, at least kf94 or kn95, a n95 or better, and I want to tell them somehow but without offending them bc I'm so happy they're masking at all! #maskup #N95 #kf94 #kn95 #FFP2

Je ne pensais pas que les #KF94 (les "poissons") et les #KN95 (les "canards") avaient un test de fitting aussi bas 😭 Heureusement que l'équivalent #PureMask qu'on m'a offert (🖤 sur toi) est plus proche d'une moyenne "correcte" !

We think overhead elastic is critical to getting good fitted-filtration (ie, net filtration of a mask on a face). We summarize this here ⬇️

In North America, #N95s must have overhead elastic simplifying our advice in favour of these over #KN95 or #KF94

There are data on beards, too!

For a 10mm beard, an N95 is still more effective than all other masks.

If the stifling feeling is specifically associated with headstraps for you, they could be too tight. Aura 3M has simple band elastic straps that lengthen with a good hard tug. This is a pro in this situation for you.

For straps that don't lengthen so easily, consider an #N95 with braided elastic such as Vitacore's #Can99.

Vitacore's Can99 also has superb breathability so if the problem isn't the attachments, this might help.

@rchusid Now we just need @WHO to mention #N95, #N99, #P100, #FFP2, #FFP3, #P3, #KF94, and/or #KN95 #elastomeric #respirators -- the ones which *work* -- rather than just vaguely saying "masks".

Cloth & surgical junk masks are 30% effective -- better than nothing.

#N95 and reusable #P100 #elastomeric #respirators are >95% effective -- MUCH better. And they're cheap enough.

The CDC is finally asking people to #WearAMask again.

The big question is whether anyone will listen because the misinformation runs strong.

#MasksWork when they're quality materials and well fitted.
