Today we drove out to Copper Harbor at the tip of the Keweenaw* Peninsula of Michigan's UP** As is our usual path, after Houghton/Hancock we turn left to the west side of the peninsula and FJ McClain State Park for a quick walk on the beach. Temps were quickly warming up inland, but it was nice and cool in the wind off the lake!

* It's pronounced KEY-win-ah, even though it's spelled keh-WEE-naw. If anyone knows why, we'd love to know!

** For those not familiar with local geography, UP = Upper Peninsula

I know Nancy. She’s at the Michigan Tech Research Institute in Ann Arbor, part of Mich Tech, but not in Houghton.
The North Shore of #LakeSuperior is gorgeous, much rockier than the #Keweenaw side (we have some sand beaches and even dunes).

I'm finally ready for an #introduction after a few weeks exploring Mastodon.

I live on the shores of #LakeSuperior on the #Keweenaw Peninsula in the #UpperPeninsula of #Michigan. This region is within Ojibwe Gichigami (“Ojibwa’s Great Sea”) homelands and ceded-territory, established by the TREATY OF 1842

I'm an #environmental #chemist with an interest in everything related to #climate, including molecular to global aspects of the carbon cycle, energy and social transitions, new and old technologies for sustainability, forests and biodiversity, local to international climate policy, and the systems thinking approaches we need to make progress.

Too much of a news and politics junkie than is healthy.

I share my domain with a partner, a dog, several felines, two donkeys, plants, and occasional uninvited critters.
